Whipple has 2 heat exchanger options for their 2018 Gen. 5 supercharger.

1. Two 11" cooling fans for the standard size heat exchanger.

2 An oversized heat exchanger with no fans.

Both options cost the same, so which is the better of the 2 options?

There’s a thread all about this somewhere...
I don’t recall the outcome sorry.
I went the larger HE simply because:
a) no noisy fans
b) less moving parts = less potential for failures
c) very little stop/go traffic. Fans are only effective up to a given speed of course, at which point you simply won’t beat the sheer capacity of the bigger system
That was my thinking...

I have a 17 but went with the oversized HE due to the fact the fans only help up to about 30Mph after that the airflow is more from the wind. I dont know my IAT2 temps but I do know I dont feel any drop off in power on 90+ degree days.

For sure the oversized heat exchanger will be an upgrade as it has more ch more fluid capacity and therefore more reserve to cool down the fluid to the inter cooler. Don’t bother with the fans as they actually impede airflow at higher speeds.

Man I read a post awhile back where a guy did back to back testing at the track and he didn’t pick up any time going from the basic to the oversized. However, he did notice a difference on the street which makes sense. A 1/4 mike pass is not really enough time to heat things up per say, but stop and go traffics def is.
