Whines While Decelerating

UPDATE!!!

It is cold today and the car sat outside for about an hour, and what do you know, I still have the whine on deceleration. So apparently, the rear rotors and pads were NOT the issue. But, hey, FORD, thanks for the new parts.

I took the car back to FORD and the service guy told me:

"Well, then it must be the front brakes transferring noise to the back brakes. Parts will not be in until April 22nd" I mentioned the TSB to him when I brought my car in last week so he went ahead and ordered me the parts.

Anyway, he refused to look at the car, insisting that the noise was transferring from the front brakes. Is this even possible???? I don't know, but that sounds like BS to me. We "disagreed" for a few minutes and I finally left.

He sent one of his service people after me into the parking lot because my parts that were supposedly not going to be there until April 22nd SUDDENLY APPEARED THE MOMENT I WALKED OUT. Can you believe that? Wow, a miracle!

So now Ford will replace my front pads and rotors (btw, I have absolutely no issue with my front brakes even though my car was manufactured Dec 2014).

Who else has a whine on deceleration and what is the problem? I really don't think it's the brakes.

Have anyone you trust to drive while you lean out the window while decelerating and listen to try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from? Short of mounting a bunch of microphones it might be easiest solution.

4/23/2015 Update:

Car started the whine again because it's cold out. Service techs were able to replicate the sound twice on two different days and concluded that it was a normal sound from the transmission :doh: They said can replace my trans, but said that it will still make the same sound.

They also that I am welcome to come in a test drive any of their 2015s on the lot, as I will hear that whine on those cars, too.

I told them that was not an acceptable response so they will now have a ford engineer stop by their shop and check out my car. The sound is coming from the rear right side of the car - still confused as to why they changed my front brakes to rectify that sound

Why was my case closed? I never told anyone my car issues were resolved.

Car also has a driver side wind noise - Ford said that's normal, too. Changing my front brakes didn't resolve that issue either.

I'm wondering if the whirring noise is due to poor or low viscosity fluid in the rear differential? Once the weather or car warms up the noise is gone.... Problem is Ford is very poor at customer service.....I've never experienced such poor service on a car bought new.

If you think it's the brakes (which I doubt), then what does the noise do when the brakes are applied and then not while accelerating? Is there any change in the noise?

If it only makes this noise when cold, then it's probably related to the oil being thick in the rear end and gear noise, which is probably normal. You could have the rear end fluid swapped out with some good synthetic lube and see what happens.

Is the noise still there if you coasted down a hill when it's cold and you put the transmission in neutral while coasting?

The noise doesn't sound normal. I don't think the issue is the brakes, that's what Ford thinks so they changed them front and rear and the car still makes the noise.

They are going to take measurements of my rear differential as the next step.
