Gents, looking at getting a defouler to try and get rid of that pesky CEL that comes with headers. I have seen two specifically mentioned on here vibrant and bigdaddie. I know that the new tune I will be ordering can fix that issue, need to keep rear O2s on for NC emissions, so the defoulers would just be a backup.

My questions to you fine people is what defoulers if any are you using, and was it an easy install?

I also read about drilling out something with a spark plug as another possible fix, however that was on a Mitsubishi forum and don't know if it applies here.

Any help is always appreciated.

Should just get two tunes, one with the rear O2's on and the other without. It's your best and most reliable fix to this issue. I'm sure the tuner won't have an issue doing that since it's just simply clicking a check box on or off and saving a new file.

Those defoulers are hit or miss. I'd focus on getting the tune.

Is that 100%?

Seems like I can just spend 50 more for the two defoulers and be G2G.

Dorman 42002 buy 2 sets of two. Drill one out with 1/2" drill bit and you have too shave just a tab more then 1/2" too fit the rear O2 sensors in. So put the rear 02 sensors in the ones that have been drilled out and put the drilled out ones into the non drilled out ones and then place them stacked in the pipe fitting. I had this done before I got a tune and it worked fine no codes or issues. Can add small amount of metal mesh inside them too act as a filter if needed as some people do but I didn't need to do this.

Tune with 02s turned off wont pass emissions in 90% of states. To get through emissions you need a tune with 02 settings STOCK and use defoulers. I have to go one step further as my state also has a visual inspection. So I need the defoulers and hollowed out cats or small resonators that look like cats.

FWIW, on a Honda I have the 90 degree design sort of like you linked to and it worked much better than a short straight extension. Mine has a large radius bend in the tubing. The straight little extensions gave me occasional CELs and a defouler didn't work for long either, but with the 90 deg version, not one CEL. And that is with no brick in the cat. Also, the guys who sold it to me (who happen to be expert tuners) said to point the bend upstream against exhaust flow. It probably isn't much different with an American car.
