Which Aftermarket Tune?

It looks like many companies will be offering engine tunes for the 2.3l ecoboost. What will be the difference, if any, between one brand or the other (price, performance, other)?

The brand to go with will be the one with the best support which means datalogging, revisions, updates with future mods, and so on. You should really ignore things like dyno numbers as there too many variables to make an accurate comparison.

I think with their turbo experience, and especially experience with the focus and fiesta I would go with Cobb.

Cobb is a good choice and i'm sure DiabloSport will have something also. I just got an Diablo Intune and it added 50hp and 60ft lbs at the wheels to my 2.0T Caddy ATS.

Coming from a current turbo 4cyl owner, Cobb would be my first choice.

Ford Racing... they support many & most all aftermarket upgrades. Best to look there first. (Try de-stressing the engine first.)


There will also be a gazillion aftermarket companies. But further introductions and consumer recognition, is yet to fully pan out. COBB & several others are known & already working on tunes & kits.

I think right now it will just be a wait & see type thing. I think with proper breathing and intake/exhaust we can see 370ft-lbs at some low rpm levels.


Personally, I can't wait to see what class the 2.3EB ends up in in the Racing Series.

+1 FRPP. Ford racing all the way. You know why all those aftermarket tunes have tons of revisions, they have tons of issues.. Ford racing knows the ecoboost better than anybody. Period. Plus a warranty.

Livernois. I'm skeptical of a company that advises customers to remove a harmonic balancer and replace it w/ a billet pulley as a 'performance upgrade'.

Ford Racing canned tunes. They aren't dyno tunes.

What is the warranty impact on tunes? With an early production, new model car I want the warranty to be valid for the first 12-18 months at least.

1. Do they automatically void the warranty if discovered?
2. On my current Genesis I could reinstall the factory tune, on service days. Is this possible
3. Does ford racing honor the warranty?
4. With mustang are they typically offered in stages, like stage 1 just tune, stage 2 tune and parts, etc

I'm going with Ford tune when it comes out.... I'm too much of a pansy to risk voiding the engine portion of my warranty. Also, like another guy said, Ford is going to know that engine better than anybody else. You are a whole lot less likely to have issues with the Ford tune

Ford tunes usually leave a lot on the table when it comes to power gains. Diablo and SCT will both have their versions of tunes that come with their programmers. Both of those companies allow certain dealers to custom tune via their software, companies like us and many others on here, who see these cars on a daily basis and really get into the inner workings of the cars will be the ones with the best tunes.

Like always there will be a tuning option for everyone and all the companies have their pros and cons. You basically need to find someone you feel is trustworthy, has a reputation to back them up, and you have to have confidence in what they can offer you. The ford tunes are nice because they don't mess with warranty. For some that won't be enough and will seek out something more in-depth. Do your research and you will quickly find out who are the good companies and which ones are selling you snake oil. Tuning is the most controversial subject in the modern performance industry, so be prepared for some heated battles.

To be frank I would stick with Cobb or Mountune. They know these EB motors inside and out. Mountune is already partnering with Ford for the FoST and FiST and Cobb, well Cobb needs no explaining who they are.
