Im sure its been discussed a few times here but what's the general opinion of wheel hop solutions for the S550? Ive ordered the Steeda bushing supports and Steeda subframe braces (should arrive tomorrow). Hoping for a significant improvement over the sloppy stock set-up. Anybody done this than can comment on their experience? For me its for street use on stock tires (2019 bullitt) I just want to be able to light 'em up when I want to. Cheers

It’s a sad thing! I just could not believe this is acceptable to ford. I added all the Steeda and it was still there, not as bad but it was definitely still there. It didn’t improve for me until I replaced wheels and tires.
Good luck,
Tim

You will need the complete Steeda "stop the hop kit" to get rid of the wheel hop. It works!!!

The wheel hop can be violent at times. On one pass down the track I thought my rear was going to separate itself from the car.

That was the moment when I decided that I wasn’t going to be doing any power adders until I fixed the sloppy rear and driveline.

I’ve since added all of the BMR/Steeda things in my signature and I have the Steeda diff bushings and replacement hardware on the way.

I can’t tell you how much better my car feels since I’ve planted it to the ground and stiffened it up.

Hello Mark,

If you would like us to put a package together for you ... we would be happy to do so, but, why stop there :)

We can get you into a full Steve McQueen Package!!

Regardless, shoot me an email to [email protected] - depending on what part of Ontario you are in, we have a shop just south of Detroit. May be worth a trip over the boards & get some stuff installed.

Let me know!

They still have wheel hop in NASCAR as well. If Ford fixed it in their street cars those race cars would no longer be representative of what you can buy in the showroom on Monday.

See my sig-line.

Going past wheel-hop, improving the suspension is better for everything. Steering, braking, handling, ride.......it's all improved.

I have literally EVERY Steeda suspension, steering, and chassis upgrade they make for the S550. Including much better tires. I don't have wheel hop, nor do I have ANY problem handling any twistys, turns, or keeping up with pretty much anything else on the road through those turns. @NoVaGT is right, improving the suspension is better for everything.

Sooo with just the bushing supports and subframe braces I shouldn’t expect any notable improvement?

Can you explain what is wheel hop and why you think the stock is sloppy?

I’ve heard about it since before I bought my car, watched a few videos now that you reminded me again, and I still don't have a good enough grasp on what it is and how it affects my daily driving. I'm getting the fact that it's stiffer - but what wheel hop? And does the stiffness after the kit become harsher on potholes? Assuming there is less play so it gets transferred to the body more

They still have wheel hop in NASCAR as well.
I think what you're thinking of there is "brake hop". Nascar rear axle suspensions bear zero resemblance to the OE rear suspension of any year Mustang.

You haven't "launched" your car from a dead stop harshly enough yet. You can expect Ford to provide suspension tuning sufficient to keep wheel hop out of the picture for most kinds of driving "enthusiasm", but not from the harshest and most abusive driving that you encounter on a dragstrip-style start.

There's nothing wrong with keeping your driving below the point where wheel hop starts showing up.

For drag racing, I am convinced that the real cure for wheel hop is drag radials. My 2018 was a wheel hopping nightmare on stock Pirellis as well as on BFG Comp 2s. It wasn't terrible from a launch but the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts in drag mode was horrendous. BMR cradle lockout kit and vertical links that I installed may have made a very slight improvement on the street but zero improvement at the strip. Slapping on some Mickey Thompson ET street R tires solved it 100%.

I can't speak for the Steeda set-up since I haven't tried it but I know that tires make a huge difference. For street driving, I would want the stickiest performance tires I could find. At the strip, drag radials are the way to go.
