First off thank you all for your advice/comments/replies.

I knew it would not be the bearing as I've had these go in previous cars hence why I did not instruct Ford to carry out the repair.

So today my car went of to Melksham Tyres, who I have used a lot for tyres and alignment etc and they are very good at what they do.

Just before I left he asked for wheel nut lock key, I couldn't find it so came back to my office. Phoned Ford as it was there on Wednesday, they asked the technician and he said they did not remove the wheel! :eye bulge:

Checked in car and found it, (did a man look first time).

Took it back to Melksham Tyres and within 10 mins they phoned and said all sorted, loose hub nut! I had to force him £20 for his time. So just one loose 32mm hub nut needed a tighten.

So a little different than the £400 Ford wanted for a perfectly working wheel bearing and the fact they did not even remove the wheel amazes me.

I will be going back there on my way home tonight to discuss this and see what they can offer me before I take this case higher.

Unbelievable! :headbonk:

You got both ends of the spectrum. The good mechanics, and the ones that give them a bad name.

And a loose hub nut should be covered under warranty as it's effectively a manufacturing defect and not something that you would have touched during the course of your modifications... so they owe you at least £20!

As a side note though... still keep an ear out for any noise from the wheel in question, as with the hub nut being loose you will have had excess play on that bearing for a while, and they are of course designed to deal with rotation and not impact!

I'd give Ford a roasting to be quite honest, especially as they stated they never took the wheel off, which is very unprofessional when diagnosing something like this (which is to the larger degree a safety issue - especially if the hub nut or bearing had failed and you could have potentially lost a wheel at speed)... and hit that button on the video on your camera phone for both posterity and in case it's ever an issue you need to refer back to!

I'd be tempted to go in there ranting and raving that your entire wheel fell off just to put the wind up them.
I'd go in just ranting and raving for the heck of it.

I wonder why Ford didn't use a nut which can be staked into a groove cut longitudinally into the threaded portion of the shaft, like 99% of all cars have?? They could at least have used a nyloc??
I think I'll be adding a second locknut to mine when I get her back?

They have a special launch this weekend for the Fiesta, I'm hoping the showroom is full of punters!
Fitting they'll punt you out first ;)!

Get someone to record it. I think we've had a few owners kick up a fuss in dealerships and it's gone well for them  (Not sarcasm)

Hub Nut should be 98ft/lbs (133Nm) and then a further 45 degrees...:)
