What would make you sell your Mach?

Not trying to influence you, but I went from a 22 Mach to a 22 GT500. Let me just say they're two completely different cars. Even just after pushing the start button, you know there is something different and special about the 500.

With that being said, I do miss the Mach a lot. But not enough to give up the 500 for one. Maybe in a few years I can convince the wife to let me have another toy (actually she'd probably be on board. She loved the Mach too).

I'd love to own a GT500 myself, but I just can't justify a 3rd Mustang in the garage. It's truly the most special S550, no doubt. I considered a GT350R, but it's too similar to the Mach 1 HP to justify it at the end of the day, and it's another Mustang. I ended up putting down a deposit for a Riverside Blue Metallic ZL1 1LE. We'll see if I get an allocation.

After that things will settle. If the current rising values of 2005-2104 Mustang GTs and BOSS's are an indication of whats coming, the Mach will hold steady and possibly start a slow climb in value as well.

Could be very well the case. I guess a lot depends on how popular the S650 platform will be and what other specialty models it'll bring, and lastly, what happens after the S650.

I'm not planning on selling mine unless Ford fixes the interior, releases a new Cobra or Boss with a Tremec and an engine other than the Coyote (maybe a heavily revised FPC motor), for 70-75k.

I think that’s a fair assumption. I feel like even if these new mustangs are popular, they may lose buyers due to how expensive all trims have gotten from a few years ago. I saw on a recent video that a fully loaded GT convertible msrps at 67k!

Just did a build and price on the Ford website and was able to get a Dark Horse to $80,395! And that does not include the carbon fiber wheels, which do not appear to be available yet on build and price.

I don’t think it’s a crazy thought. You know what is best for your situation. I love the concept of the 86 myself but I just couldn’t get over the engine. Did a wrench light pop up letting you know about the misfires?

Yeah it's happened twice in the last 3 weeks. I saw the check engine light come up for about 3-5 seconds both times and then disappear. No idea what it could be but i'm having the dealership look at it since it's still under warranty.

Not slamming you here, but I'd be pretty cautious on the GR86. Oil pressure starvation under moderate G resulting in blown engines. Baffled oil pans have not solved the issue, root cause is still unknown. Not to mention the RTV sealant problem in the oiling system. I like the car especially the looks of the Subaru version, but even with the GEN 2 engine, its underpowered and this oiling issue is not good.

Its hard to give up the V8, I did for a time for a beautiful blue Audi S5, supercharged V6. I over boosted mine to get ~380ish HP, stock is 333HP, very fast DCT transmission. That car was QUICK off the line, and very efficient on using all the tires, it also had the sport differential. All that said it never provided that visceral full body experience the V8s do. This is a matter of personal preference, there isn't a wrong answer but I missed it too much and wanted a V8 back. My point is there is high potential for some expensive regret here, and if the point is to pocket 15-20K, I'd slow down a bit.

I would try to work a deal with one of the car rental services like Turo where you rent someone else's privately owned car. Get an 86 for a few days before making this big decision, they are going to be very different experiences. Carmax might have one of those buy it and return it within a week or 250miles deals....

Didn't look at used pricing but if you really like this gen mustang but want lower running costs what about the 2.3L HP PKG Mustang?

Other cars more similar to GR86/BRZ would be ND Miata.

You make some great points. I'd heard about the RTV issue but that oil pressure issue is pretty yikes – hadn't heard of that until now. I've actually driven the new BRZ before though and liked it though. Hopefully they issue a recall for the oil issue and fix it.

I will probably end up keeping the Mach unless this check engine light ends up becoming a problem or if i just really need some cash on hand. Could just be having one of those "grass is greener" moments with being afraid i'm going to go to prison every time I rev out the Coyote, hah.

Ecoboost doesn't really appeal to me much after having driven a V6 Mustang for 6 years. I like Supras so that may be a fun option, although i'd probably lose money on the deal. Miatas are fun but are a ton less practical than a GR86.

Going to have to reevaluate things next year and see what our needs are.

The GR86 is a really fun car to drive. It’s a car you can get loose with and pretty much not worry about it getting away from you. The Mach 1 has to be controlled more and commands more of your focus.
