Hi. I will be looking for a new or used 18 or 19 in the next few months. I am retired and budget is a concern, so only options that make the car ET the best are basically what i want. Will a base Gt a10 fill the bill, or are there other options that are important for best track times? A base Gt probably handles fine for me, as i don't do any road course type driving. What do you think, and why?

Once you've decided on engine and transmission it's hard to go wrong imho since virtually everything to go fast is so easily upgradable. Since budget is a concern, buy to your comfort level.

So there are no options that are kind of a must for best performance for a GT with 10 speed auto? I am confused on the toggle feature, how to get it and what real benefits it has. I want to put a Whipple blower on, i understand they put out 800 hp. If there is something i need to option to protect the trans from that brutal torque, i will do that.

I went with the A10, 301 and 3.55's for better low end. ran 11.92/118 with a 340# driver bone stock on factory 255's (black accent package). A great combo.

Sounds good. Gotta say, at 69 years old, the transition from flathead motors to today just blows my mind. Top fuel cars were in the eights when i was little. Some factory built race cars are now faster. Who would have ever thought Joe Average could plunk down about 100,000 and have a car with that potential!
And a basic GT in the elevens!

Greg, it's my understanding the A10 can handle the Whipple, and more with no tweeking needed. If you looking for a budget racer the base would be just fine in my humble opinion. No other OEM add-ons should be necessary. I would say maybe the active exhaust, but if you're planning on a supercharger I would guess you would want to change out the entire exhaust system anyway, so there's really no need for that. I don't even know if you would want to spend that little extra for a 3.55 gear, as you may may want something even higher. So, the 3.55 would be money you would just pull out, and toss in the scrap bin. If you want straight line fast the base car with no other options is the affordable place to start.

If you plan on supercharging and going to the drag strip you'll need suspension mods, drag radials, etc. And I believe the half shafts on the 18/19 are no stronger than the previous S550's and as I understand it they're breaking under even close to stock power. Obviously if you already drag race I'm sure you're expecting all this, but I figured I'd say it anyway just in case.

This... except you’re gonna be tuned once you add the supercharger so I would save the $2k and go base package over the 301a.

I ordered a base trim VB 2019 GT, with the following options, which I believe is a great build:

A10
301A Package
Enhanced Security Package
3.55 Rear
Spoiler Delete

Mine is a base with the only option being the black accent package. I wish I had the 301A package for the toggles but if you are getting a tune of any sort (like with a Whipple) that takes care of that without having the extras the 301A gets you. I would still get it however if you want the touch screen and auto climate. I really wish I had those and will be adding them sometime soon I hope. Otherwise any other extra feature or option can pretty much be installed in the car by you once your wallet allows (like the LCD gauge cluster or the touchscreen radio or leather seats, etc).

My wife's explorer has the touch screen and auto climate. I will say it's nice for the climate to auto adjust when you hit the remote start, but really the touchscreen isn't all that special. It seemed amazing at first, but it can be confusing, I can't get my samsung phone to sync with it, and it takes longer to do just about everything than it would using the dash controls. We really only use it for climate control since you can adjust it in the back too. The steering wheel controls for sirius and all that do that just fine otherwise.

I miss the auto climate for remote starts because my fusion had that. Does your wife's explorer have Sync 2 or Sync 3? If its Sync 2, the system in the mustang will be much better because you can use Android Auto if you plug your phone in. That might make a big difference on ease of use. Also, a base like mine without 301A will not have Sirius radio connectivity. I guess you have to get the 301A package to get that feature.

It's a 2013 so I presume it's Sync 2, or 1 maybe if there's such a thing. My beef overall is just with MFT in-general. There's just too much going on if you want to do anything out of the ordinary, like direct tuning to a sirius station. If you're driving while doing it you're taking your life into your hands. Little things like that are what I find annoying.
