That's why both Ford and Chevrolet went with a 4 Cil. Ecoboost. If they both adapt at the "same" time neither will see customers running to the competitors.

So how would you demand a V8 in your truck when Dodge, Chevrolet, Toyota and Ford all drop the N/A V8 and go for a TTV6 at the "same" time ? People aren't going to stop buying trucks if there is no V8 option.

Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, BMW, Mercedes have been dropping N/A for years now and even icons like the 911 are going turbo. If you love your 911 and can't have a N/A are you going to stop buying your favorite car ?

And the people that really can't do without is a minority anyway. They'll gain more sales with lower taxes on cars then people that refuse to buy if it's no N/A or V8.

So whenever Ford needs to drop the V8 because of CAFE, they will without any hesitations. And doesn't even have to be CAFE, Ford is selling globally and in many countries, big engines have an immense tax penalty.

But I guess V8's easially have a few more years left still.

The counterpoint to that, though, is that you don't yet see other truck makers jumping into TTV6 offerings in their light trucks. I think that the other companies are still viewing Ford's EcoBoost as an experiment (much like the aluminum body). A good part of the truck buyers are brand loyal, but there are lot that aren't - fleet customers included. If Ford drops the V8 and GM & Ram still offer one, Ford will loose some part of those sales. A lot of fleet and work truck buyers still want the relative simplicity and lower cost (new and long term) of the V8 over the TTV6. Those might be a smaller part of the market, but they are still an important part of it. Ford isn't likely to ignore them, IMHO. I have to believe that it is real tricky to balance meeting the customer's demand and the government's, and they will, of course, do whatever makes the most business sense. But in the end, they're in business to make money by selling product. To that end, they have to make the product customers will buy. Balancing out what offering combination is best is a task I'm glad I don't have to handle...

Ford never has to drop it because of CAFE. They could either pay the fines, or just make the V8 more exclusive (the more likely option). Remember, CAFE is about averages. So if the V8 sales are relatively low because it's more exclusive, they can still make them without paying the fine. The V8 won't go away until the internal combustion motor itself goes extinct -- and that's not happening for a long time yet.

What I figure is that sooner or later you will see a second motor option for the GT: a turbo V6. But the V8 would remain on the menu as an option, and/or for special trims like Mach 1, etc...

And even THAT I don't expect to happen until the seventh gen, at the earliest.

2018 could see
2.3/5.0/5.2 all with upgrades.

2021 addition of 3.5

Nicely rounded off...
2.3 w/350hp
5.0 w/450hp
5.2 w/550hp

....3.5 w/450hp: maybe with 10spd auto or choose 5.0 w/manual?

Nice, that all sounds great. 450hp is low enough that it could still be port injection, fingers crossed. Interesting to hear that the 5.2 could live on. Really thought the GT350 would die after 2017. And I don't even know what to think of that 3.5 rumor lol...

5.2 does...GT350 may not.

Next Gen 3.5 is a monster...look at the hp/torque...420/420...can go north to Ford GT territory

I wonder if 2018 might be the start of eliminating the V8 option?

Ah, the news just gets more and more interesting. N/A 550hp doesn't sound high enough for GT500 so now to try and narrow down from Boss 302, Mach 1 or Bullitt as the lucky special edition that gets it.:D

Based off what was just posted it sounds like the V8 will stick around well into the 7th gen at least.

Currently there is a strong market for the V8, and as long as selling to that market is profitable the V8 will remain.

Hey TN

Just for clarification......those HP figures.....are you proposing those for '18 or '21MY? Just wondering if you mean there's a bump for next year and then a further bump (to the figures you posted) for S650.

I'll be honest, I'm hope for 450hp out of the Coyote next year in the facelifted '18 :)
