If they did add DI it could bring the GT to around 470hp bringing it back into the fight with the SS. Combine that with some weight savings and a revised Performance Package and you have a milkshake.
Ah, but does the milkshake bring all the boys to the yard? That's the eternal question.

Damn right, it's better than theirs!

My prediction for 2018:

1. 3.7 V6 remains unchanged, 2.3 ecoboost gets same upgrades as the Focus RS bringing it to 345hp, GT gets DI with PI bringing the power to around 470hp with 1 more mpg

2. 10 speed transmission introduced accross all trims and included on the Performance Package, Tremec 3160 from the GT350 becomes the new 6 speed manual accross all trims

3. Revised Performance Package with base suspension from the GT350

4. Optional HUD and Active Exhaust

5. Revised front end in the fog light/blinker area with a nip tuck to the front slightly reducing the OAL by an inch or so

6. Revised rear end with the lights, bumper (accommodate new exhaust), and deck lid spoiler

7. Stronger rear axles

8. Small weight reduction (rims, aluminum hood, aluminum bumper support, and possible aluminum drive shaft)

9. Colors will be almost the same as 2017 with an optional color that will replace Ruby Red. I see a new yellow being introduced.

I do not believe there will be a truly "significant" weight reduction until the S650.

Someone in another thread said 100% the 2018 V8 will get Direct injection (maybe dual?) and plasma spray cylinder liner. Just what someone said, I have no idea. But I would like to see the bore stay the same. Those things are already bored awful thin. Maybe some increased meat from the GT350 block would be nice.

Revised aluminum hood to get rid of that hood movement at speed and for aero. Could be lighter too?

I mean the outer door panels.

I definitely could see aluminum subframes but more so on the S650. Either way, I do expect to see some additional aluminum in 2018 followed by a complete aluminum overhaul on the S650.

Based on my own thoughts and assumptions and what Mad Cow mentioned above, I have a few questions for the mechanics/engine builders on the forum.

1) How much more displacement past 5.2L is possible with the current 5.0L block?

2) What are the max horsepower and torque numbers possible on factory installed and
warrantied 5.0L and 5.2L Coyote engines?

I personally prefer more torque than horsepower anyway.

Thanks for all responses and education.

This sounds awfully specific...either you make very detailed guesses or...:ninja:
All of this sounds good to me. Hoping that optional new color is Highland Green. :D

1. Probably none through boring. Maybe a little more stroke but overall this architecture isn't going to gain any significant cubes. Much like the 4.6 its based on.

2. Lots of factors really. Tune, DI, compression, emissions. I'm sure the Voodoo could get up pretty close to 600hp if they wanted to. Torque will be relatively low on "small" cube high rpm motors.

Could there be a possibility of Ford dropping the V8 and going all Ecoboost?
I read today that there is a strong rumor that they will drop the V8 option in the F150 soon.
They seem to be going gang busters on getting rid of 8's. The Navigator,Expedition, and Raptor are all sixes. Even the upcoming Continental is a six(heresy if you ask me).

EB technology seems to be the future of Ford Performance.
I do believe Ford will release an EB 5.0L or 5.2L before they phase out V8s.
This will be swan song for the Ford V8 and probably be offered only in the next GT 500.

I stand by my projection that NA V8s will remain available. I find it hard to believe that they'd drop the V8 in the truck line; there are still too many traditionalists that will demand a V8 and not want the TTV6. Yes, one can make the argument that the latter offers better fuel economy, but I doubt that really applies when loaded or trailering. As long as the V8 is available in the truck line, it'll be easy to offer in Mustang. The '18MY update will still have the V8 in the GT, and I'm betting that the S650 will as well.
