That's why both Ford and Chevrolet went with a 4 Cil. Ecoboost. If they both adapt at the "same" time neither will see customers running to the competitors.
So how would you demand a V8 in your truck when Dodge, Chevrolet, Toyota and Ford all drop the N/A V8 and go for a TTV6 at the "same" time ? People aren't going to stop buying trucks if there is no V8 option.
Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, BMW, Mercedes have been dropping N/A for years now and even icons like the 911 are going turbo. If you love your 911 and can't have a N/A are you going to stop buying your favorite car ?
And the people that really can't do without is a minority anyway. They'll gain more sales with lower taxes on cars then people that refuse to buy if it's no N/A or V8.
So whenever Ford needs to drop the V8 because of CAFE, they will without any hesitations. And doesn't even have to be CAFE, Ford is selling globally and in many countries, big engines have an immense tax penalty.
But I guess V8's easially have a few more years left still.
