X plan basically is a no haggle deal. It's already a few hundred over invoice and I doubt you would find a dealer that would accept an offer below X-plan.
I had no problem getting a better deal than x-plan from multiple dealers.

I would agree that the x plan price is a good price and has the bonus of no haggle and no concern about fine print. I would also agree that depending on the dealer you have an excellent chance of getting well below x plan. While the mustang is selling well, remember (and remind the dealer) that the 2016s will be starting job 1 soon and the competition (camaro) will be out soon. It helps to have financing all ready to go. I'm working with my dealer who I have bought many cars from and told him the price, options, and color I'm looking for. I told him I can close on 12 hour notice or if they can't make the price it's ok and we will just have to wait until incentives from Ford are better and perhaps the other things mentioned drop the price. Of course I'm prepared to wait until august if I need to and worse case I have to pay x plan for a 2016.

Just picked up my mustang over the weekend. Highly recommend Koons in Baltimore MD

Sticker $43,295
Koons price $37,801
Ford retail cash -$500
College grad -$500

= $36,801

I'm pretty darn happy with that!

I'm not buying from Koons Ford in Baltimore, but I am from Koons Ford in Sterling, VA (where I have bought my six cars). They are having a hard time finding the car I want but I expect to pay about $600 over x plan AFTER TTL.

As mentioned above in different posts, but to consolidate, I would do the following:

- Have your financing and check ready to go
- Have an x plan pin from Mustang club (only $50) just in case and for negotiations
- Have no trade in
- Email all the dealers you can individually. Tell them:
1. What you want for a car/options and what your flexible on like color, options
2. Tell them you have access to x plan but with the new Camaro (hint hint) and the new 2016's (hint hint) coming out, you are looking for a better price and you want their BEST OUT THE DOOR price. I even would mention that "since the job #1 date is coming up on 8/3/15 and the new Chevy Camaro is releasing on 5/16/15.." to show that you actually know what your talking about and not just trying.
3. Tell them email comms only. When they call, ignore it, they will email. If they won't email a price and want you to come in, tell them the others will and your sorry for wasting their time and your done with them.
4. When they email it will be too high. Pick the lowest offer and send it to one of the other dealers. When he beats it, send that to dealer 3, 3's to 4, etc. Get them negotiating with each other and not you.
5. When you don't think they can take anymore, then make your purchase.

Or...

pick out your car, pay x-plan.

Either are perfectly fine. You can pay in money, pay in time, pay in stress, but your will pay :)

How the hell - wow, that's a crazy deal. That's exactly what I'm looking for but I'm so far from Baltimore the trip probably wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah I'm not sure he's including everything "out the door".

I bought mine from Koons Baltimore also (agreed, best prices anywhere) and my MSRP was 45,5xx. Their price on the car was 38,xxx. OTD after adding in freight, taxes, title, etc was 42,500.

With all due respect, it was $38,200 out the door. I was shocked. I made them detail it over the phone. When they honored the WOW price, two additional incentives ($750 ford cash, $750 Lease conquest) over the phone and would not take a deposit, I left work and drove 1.5 hours to get it. I also get a little break on the tax as I am VA and only pay 4%. My other car is still on the lot. Will figure that out later.

The wow price is still up. See attached.

I haven't taken delivery of my ordered mustang yet, but here is my breakdown, purchased at Koons Ford in Sterling:

Total MSRP: 40015
Total OTD (this includes Tax, Tag, Processing Fee, and $500 Ford Rebate): $37,732

I'm hoping that by the time I take delivery in May they will increase the rebate to $1000. No private cash, not for lack of trying. I usually get tons of them just in the normal mail and lately I can't seem to get any more.

Edit:

I will add the following. I was offered a guard with saddle interior and loaded up to about 45K MSRP for $38k OTD. I would have been willing to do everything, but was stuck on the color and REALLY wanted Ruby Red (I can't afford at GT350 and feel the RR really pops and is a somewhat unique color). Anyway, my point is that the reason they were able to offer that one is they had traded another vehicle with a dealer for it and still had the "extra incentives/cash/whatever" on that traded vehicle to apply. This is part of what makes car buying so tricky. They can move a TON on some vehicles and very little on others. It depends on how long they have had the vehicle, what they actually paid for the vehicle (no necessarily from Ford, but maybe from another dealer on a trade deal), etc. It becomes very hard to determine what their COST actually was/is.

I like to get a good deal, but I also pull the trigger when I get the deal I think optimizes my effort. IMO, this is a classic diminishing returns scenario. With a little negotiation you can save thousands. With a little more, you can save a few hundred more. After that, you wind up pour tons of time, stress, money, and concessions (options, color, etc) into saving just a few dollars more. This has to be done for every vehicle because you don't know what the dealer has sunk or not sunk into having that car on their lot.
