I can tell you from personal experience, having gotten out of my car 5 minutes ago, that the sock trick barely does anything. I even went and got a super heavy duty plastic backed fabric that lets zero light through over it. Still git wicked hot. Like, stick your hand in the oven hot. While I love the look and weight of this knob, I will be removing it for this reason. The ambient temperature is what affects this and stainless steel is a sponge for heat. Stefan–Boltzmann law, statement that the total radiant heat energy emitted from a surface is proportional to the fourth power of its absolute temperature. <--- What that means, I have no idea but I think it means my knob get's f**king hot!

 I don't know if this belongs in the mustang6g forums or the penthouse forums.

That has more to do with stars than a shift ball; your shift ball isn't radiating anything.

You guys have a bunch of letters on your licence plates in TN:D
It has the Don't Tread On Me flag and the number will be: BLU WZL or FASTWZL.
Depends which one they assign.

Upgraded the stock rotors with DBA T2's and the stock pads with stoptech ceramic pads. :headbang:

If it's hot it's radiating proportional to T^4 too. But it feels hot to the hand because it's been baking and soaking up heat inside the car all day long - and no sock or other cover (unless it's activly cooled) will keep the temperature below the ambient temp inside the cabin. No different than putting it inside an oven and baking it at 150 deg F for hours, then grabbing it. If it's a heavy weighted knob, it's going to have a lot of heat capacity and it's going to take a while for it to transfer heat and cool down. A cover will however help prevent it from getting even hotter than the cabin air temp if the sun is directly hitting the knob too.

Took my car to the strip for the first time ever! I have never done this before and it was a blast. I went with a bunch of coworkers, 3 with S550 GTs, one a Scatpack Challenger, a 370Z and a turbocharged Miata. There was also a pretty much bone stock Boss 302 in our group. I ran a best of 12.961 @ 110.95, with 2.17 60 ft. Track prep was good and we had a pretty constant 15-20 mph headwind.

Nice! I have never been to a track myself either, not sure exactly what to expect but I need to go one day.

That's a good time for first time out! Figure the tune pushes you over to the 12's?

Probably, though with better launches I could've definitely gone deeper into the 12s. I started off at 13.1s, and that's what most of my runs were. The car without the tune and without the headwind of about 15 mph constant would've probably run 12s too. My buddy with very similar car overall, ran a best of 12.88 (PP car). When we lined up together he got ahead at the 1-2 shift by about 1/3 car and then it was like that that whole way down.
