I decided a couple years ago to start waving at all Mustangs. Just a quick "4 fingers up" on the wheel or "left hand out and point" if my arm is resting on the door.

Most people are oblivious when they are driving, another group probably doesn't know why I am waving, but about 20-30% wave back.. Those are the enthusiasts, who are paying attention at least. :)

I do get quite a few people pull up and say something, but they are usually in their work vehicles or used to want/use to own a stang. On friday some dude in a florist van drove like a maniac to get up next to me at a light to tell me how much he liked the car and had a '93 at home. :)

I feel a lot of camaraderie with other Mustang drivers and I want to acknowledge them, so I give them a polite half-wave over the steering wheel. It's a Southern thing.

Yea I've had the same experience. Especially ppl in older models will look at me but don't wave or anything unless I catch them looking lol.

I have owned 2 Wranglers back-to-back, and you are right, the drivers are more social. It's much more of a "brotherly" (and sisterly!) mentality.
Yep. :D

My DD is a Wrangler, and it's daily waving.

Guy in a Panamera had put his arm out the window with his hand up when I caught up to him Friday (casual driving speed - but I purposely stayed slightly behind left). The experience lasted maybe 10 seconds. I did not know what to think, actually, except maybe, Who, me? :p But no one in those cars cares, right? Perhaps he was airing out his armpit.

I am wondering if from now on, when passing (or being passed by) other Stangers if maybe I should grin and hold up a peace sign when in their view, without taking my eyes off the road. No one's feelings get hurt, and it is not aggressive. ;)

I will but don't get much love in return. I own a 2003 Tj Wrangler and it's normal to wave at other Wranglers. I feel like the only drivers who wave at each other are Wrangler owners and Bikes.

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango (first gen) and even though it was in the third year of production by 2002 I still got the wave from other Durango drivers for years. The original Durango Owners Club is still alive and well with most of the original membership intact. Strongest sense of ownership of any car I've had to date.

I also ride a motorcycle and always wave to my fellow riders. Now that is an interesting wave dynamic. Non Harley riders tend to wave regularly to other non-Harley riders but are tentative to wave to Harley guys. Harley owners tend to only wave to other Harley owners and rarely acknowledge anything non-Harley. I currently ride a Harley but came up on sport bikes and other non-Harley cruisers. I wave to all my 2 wheeled brothers no matter what they are riding. To me if you are out there in the wind risking life and limb with the people updating Facebook while they are driving then you get the nod from me no matter what is written on your tank...

It's interesting to hear that many people are experiencing the same thing I am -- other Stang drivers ignoring them. Now, I am not saying that they should wave or something. What I am saying is that they are purposing ignoring that my car is there. One example I gave was a Shelby purposely not passing me even though he or should could have easily done so. Yet, other "rival" cars make it a point to speed up or turn their heads (if they are driving in the opposite direction) to look and make gestures.

Anyway. Not trying to purpose anything. I just wanted to see if others are seeing the same kind of behaviors from other Stang drivers. I will say, though, that it would be nice if we did make some sure of gesture of acknowledgment to one another. I want to. But it's hard when you can tell that they are purposely looking away from you.

I had a Wrangler before as well and my arm would get tired of waving to other owners on a daily basis haha. Same when I drove my MINI Cooper S.

New or old Mustang owners won't wave or try to act like they aren't even looking. I got a really loud rev from an 06ish GT the other day, but other than that (even from the two 15 owners I've seen), nothing. One guy complimented my exhaust while he was working the other day, said he had an 02 with headers/exhaust. Hell, even the Charger Hellcat that obliderated me the other day was friendly lol

This is what I mean. They try not to look. Other "rival" cars actually make a point to look or make a gesture.

On your point with Wrangler and MINI... I think with a distinctive car like that that fellow owners will wave. The Wrangler and a MINI are good examples of this. Because the car is so distinctive, it should be in a club of its own.

Oh hell. I'm probably completely wrong about all of this. I doubt other 911 owners wave to one another. lol

You can wave if you want but road courtesy and friendliness is going the way of the ditch. My 'other car' is actually a motorcycle. Motorcyclists used to wave at each other. The last two or so years have seen that practice drop to probably less than 1/4 of the riders. I keep waving though.

Now, regarding the other Mustang drivers...well, right now there is a considerable amount of disrespect being bestowed on the S550 by some of them. Give it time and it will disperse. Waving at some of these people may actually cause enhanced anger issues.
I live in E.TN. a motorcycle destination for riders from everywhere.A lot of waving still goes on.

It's been kind of hit and miss here in Northern VA for me. Some people drive right by like they don't even realize they're driving a Mustang, some wave and want to wind down the window to talk while trying to drive haha. I've also been waved at / thumbs upped by quite a few non-S550 Mustang owners.
