So i finally got the car back today; here is what the dealer said. "Removed seats, all carpets, and trim moldings. Water tested and found water coming into the vehicle from a pillar into cabin. Found foam blocking rocker drain. Lowered dash bracket, make access and removed sound deadening foam blocking drainage ports. Everything ok now."

I had a short ride home and have not noticed any additional noises as of yet but it is very clear that the padding and insulation underneath the carpet is missing. The carpet is very loose fitting and in places seems out of line. I dont want to be angry but the car doesn't even have 8000 miles on it. It was my first new car purchase and after spoiling the car with washes and maintenance, something like this happens and just makes me feel so angry. Im sure there is very little the dealer can do to change anything. It will never be like it was from the factory but Ill just try and be happy that the water problem is fixed. (As far as I know)

Funny side note, they have my car listed on the paper work as a V6. I guess they didn't actually input the VIN >.<

Good to hear you have the car back. The A-Pillar foam is exactly what they have found on mine, today Ill be driving to see if water still comes out before putting the carpet back.

As they removed your carpet as well, the only way to do it is to cut it in 2 places or remove the dash to avoid cutting. On mine we cut it under the middle console and in the middle corner of the passengers side to make it unnoticeable later on.

To comment on the sounds, under the carpet there is no extra carpet or foam, just some sticky rubber like you see in the picture and a foot pedal like foam piece under the pedals.

A final comment, since they had to widen or punch a whole in the A-Pillar sound foam this is a obvious factory flaw. But weird that the water didn't came in from the start, like mine only did after 2.5 years. The foam is sprayed in there and expands a little bit.

Just keep an eye out for water leaks coming from the hood latch, even with punched hole in the foam water still came in on mine. Will see what it does today as it had been snowing and raining all night here.

Good luck and thank you to report on what the dealer said, this is very useful info!!

Yes - thanks for returning to post a follow-up.

And to 'Notes'...

What are we looking at in that excellent picture, please? An interior view of the base of the A-pillar I assume, but what is the angle of view? And is the drainage aperture visible in that pic? Is it blocked or clear?

Many thanks to both of you.

(P.S.: I wondered if perhaps the owner had installed an aftermarket moonroof, because the description of the original issue is very similar to blocked or not connected or mis-routed moonroof drainage tubes.)

The picture is taken from under the hood where in the EU our pedestrian safety bombs are located. The napkin is inserted from the hood latch inside the car cabin. The hole that was blocked with the grey foam is underneath that at the bottom of the plastic a-pillar, and not really visible.

We used a borescope to get a closer view and only saw a small tiny piece of foam blocking a tiny hole, that only after we compared it with the passenger side a pillar.

Oddly enough it was blocked from the factory without issues for 2.5 years...

Thank you. So...the top of the photo is the rearward side of the car? or is the top of the photo actually the outboard side of the car?

And your statement: "The napkin is inserted from the hood latch inside the car cabin" Do you actually mean the release lever? or the release cable [aperture]?

I'm not trying to trip you up - I'm just trying to orient my viewing point.

(And...I take for granted that the plastic surface upon which the label "LH" is stamped is the bottom? closest and roughly parallel to the ground?)

The top is indeed rearward, next to the release lever (my mistake, I thought this was also called a hood latch). To orient, lets say you are in the car from the release lever towards the front it's about roughly 25 cm in size. In the UK, AUS or SA this would be on the right and the LH would be RH.

Yes indeed!

Here you go, these things makes your hood pop in the upward direction for a softer landing or something... If these pop you need to replace the hood as well.
If I remember well they are only installed in the export market vehicles, not in the US. And from that hole you look straight down inside the A-pillar

Okay - I get it now. It's a canister charge that is connected to the Occupant Restraint System. I'm assuming it dramatically & instantaneously raises the hood (nearest the windscreen) by 30 or 40 mm to provide a measure of cushioning for a human that is about to crash down upon it.

Interesting! Thanks for the pics! :headbang:

Must be a lot of pedestrians getting run over in Europe.

Is the red arrow about the camera angle shown in your other photo of the A-pillar sealed up area?

Lot's of ancient city's with narrow streets...

Yes the camera angle is right, we put the phone lens very close to that hole, you can clearly see the shape of the edge though.
