I don't think any S550's have a moonroof. Fastback or Vert.Does this car have a moonroof?
Good to hear you have the car back. The A-Pillar foam is exactly what they have found on mine, today Ill be driving to see if water still comes out before putting the carpet back.So i finally got the car back today; here is what the dealer said. "Removed seats, all carpets, and trim moldings. Water tested and found water coming into the vehicle from a pillar into cabin. Found foam blocking rocker drain. Lowered dash bracket, make access and removed sound deadening foam blocking drainage ports. Everything ok now."
I had a short ride home and have not noticed any additional noises as of yet but it is very clear that the padding and insulation underneath the carpet is missing. The carpet is very loose fitting and in places seems out of line. I dont want to be angry but the car doesn't even have 8000 miles on it. It was my first new car purchase and after spoiling the car with washes and maintenance, something like this happens and just makes me feel so angry. Im sure there is very little the dealer can do to change anything. It will never be like it was from the factory but Ill just try and be happy that the water problem is fixed. (As far as I know)
The picture is taken from under the hood where in the EU our pedestrian safety bombs are located. The napkin is inserted from the hood latch inside the car cabin. The hole that was blocked with the grey foam is underneath that at the bottom of the plastic a-pillar, and not really visible.Yes - thanks for returning to post a follow-up.
And to 'Notes'...
What are we looking at in that excellent picture, please? An interior view of the base of the A-pillar I assume, but what is the angle of view? And is the drainage aperture visible in that pic? Is it blocked or clear?
Many thanks to both of you.
(P.S.: I wondered if perhaps the owner had installed an aftermarket moonroof, because the description of the original issue is very similar to blocked or not connected or mis-routed moonroof drainage tubes.)
The top is indeed rearward, next to the release lever (my mistake, I thought this was also called a hood latch). To orient, lets say you are in the car from the release lever towards the front it's about roughly 25 cm in size. In the UK, AUS or SA this would be on the right and the LH would be RH.Thank you. So...the top of the photo is the rearward side of the car? or is the top of the photo actually the outboard side of the car?
And your statement: "The napkin is inserted from the hood latch inside the car cabin" Do you mean the actually mean the release lever? or the release cable [aperture]?
I'm not trying to trip you up - I'm just trying to orient my viewing point.
(And...I take for granted that the plastic surface upon which the label "LH" is stamped is the bottom? closest and roughly parallel to the ground?)
Here you go, these things makes your hood pop in the upward direction for a softer landing or something... If these pop you need to replace the hood as well.Thank you! What is a Pedestrian Safety Bomb?

Lot's of ancient city's with narrow streets...Must be a lot of pedestrians getting run over in Europe.
Yes the camera angle is right, we put the phone lens very close to that hole, you can clearly see the shape of the edge though. Is the red arrow about the camera angle shown in your other photo of the A-pillar sealed up area?
