Real car guy? Last I looked it was a real car I'm making payments for. Manually rowing gears is pointless in a passenger vehicle. You're not connected anymore to your machine than I am. You're just doing pointless work I'm not. The machine is much better and efficient at changing gears on it's own.If this was a dual clutch automatic with paddle shifters we were talking about, I'd totally agree. Autos are admittedly great, when tuned and paired with a proper torque converter, for drag racing. For everything else, the traditional automatics like in the mustang are no substitute for a manual transmission. You don't have to worry about overheating fluid, or rubber bands, or any of that with a manual. Generally, outside of a clutch replacement every 100k or so, a manual transmission is much more reliable. That said, I prefer to DRIVE my cars. If the mustang was offered with self steering, would you let it steer for you all the time? If you're a car guy, my guess would be no. This is how I personally feel about transmissions.
