VIN # VS Production number

I haven't taken delivery of my Shelby yet, but I assumed that the last 4 digits of the vin were also the production number and would match the dash plaque. Is this correct? Because I thought I read on here where a few matched both vin and plaque numbers but others said they didn't match.

Mine does not match, VIN is 1360.. chassis is lower

Yes, his is a 2015, which they did VIN match with the production number.

2016s are scrambled, they don't match, but the chassis number is effectively the number it was built in afaik.

I wonder then how they determine what production number to use. Usually the last numbers are the production number.

Well, they do have computers. It can't be too hard to keep a sequential count.

Not necessarily. The VINs are really scrambled; the 35 cars that were built on the same day as my car were spread out by more than 800, but I was told the chassis numbers would be in order as the cars came off the line. :shrug:
