Hi all just got my VIN today 1FA6P8JZ9G5523263 I will soon have my assume ride. :headbang:

From what I have seen in others VINs on the web the 350s have a unique code in the VIN the first seven relate to where it was assembled paint color and its a Mustang -------Z9G552---- the middle 6 tells you that its a 5.2L 6 speed GT350 with the last 4 digits of my VIN should be that its the 3263th GT350 to roll out of Flat Rock. If I am understanding how Ford runs there VIN numbers.

My question is since its the #3263 GT350 produced will my chassis have the same number?

Thanks

Don't think there is rhyme or reason.
krt22 ordered several months before me and he got Vin 2216, chassis 2022, as mentioned above.

I ordered 9/11, got vin 1356 chassis 0959, and got my car over a month before his. Almost doesn't seem fair. ;)

I think we even ordered in the same region... MidWest

Yep, has zero to do with order date. In ordered 6/4 and it was built 1/12

Do you guys know the reason why the numbers don't match besides 2015's? Is it intentional just to keep the 2015 special, or is it just a real PITA to get them matched on the production line

I'm not sure about the assembly line process, but yes, I believe it was mostly to have something special about the '15s.

Just can't get enuff!
The 2016 I ordered and turned down (since I got a '15) was VIN 356 and Chassis 406. Go figure... :shrug:

2015 GT350's were very special in getting VIN's to match the build number. Ford typically never does this. VIN sequence for 2016's has GT350's, GT's, V6's, and EcoBoosts all coming from the same pool of VIN's, so NONE of the GT350 VIN's will match the dash plaque number.

1FA6P8JZ9G5523263 breaks down as follows....

1 = Country of manufacture (USA)
FA6 = Manufacturer ID and safety equipment identifier
P8J = Body Code (P = passenger car, 8 = Mustang, J = Shelby Coupe)
Z = 5.2L V8 FPC
9 = Check digit (must be 0-9, or letter X)
G = Year digit (2016 MY)
5 = Assembly Plant (Flat Rock, MI)
523263 = Sequential build number (started at 500001 for 2016 MY Mustangs)

You pretty much have the correct reasons as to why the 2015's and 2016's are different with respect to VIN's and chassis numbers.

I suggest that because a lot of the executives/senior management in Dearborn purchased many of the 2015's there was a conscious effort in order to keep the 137 VIN and chassis numbers exactly the same and somewhat easier to do for a small build number.

As as mentioned it is a PITA to keep them all matched on a production line as the VIN's are assigned well before production so very difficult to keep thousands of these GT350 cars in order.

I recall a conversation with Ford some time ago whereby they attempted to keep the chassis number and VIN the same for the 2012 Boss 302 cars and they gave up real early as it ended up in a logistical nightmare.

This is all true, but I dont think the last 6 are intermixed with the regular mustangs. Every single GT350 is a G552XXXX, so ford must have blocked off a segment of the sequence just for GT350 use. Although I think the R and regular GT350 pull from that some pool.

But yeah, putting them all in order would be a nightmare and slow down production, they prioritize them by color/options/parts availibility so it would be way too tricky to keep them in order while maximizing production efficiency

I stand corrected. '16 GT350's last 6 digits start with 520001 while regular '16 Mustangs start with 200001
