Try using a small pair of needle nose pliers to grip the prong and push it into the mirror.
It worked for me. I was very concerned about breaking one of those flimsy little buggers.
I tried to work this tonight for almost an hour with no luck. I am convinced these cannot fit. I am not sure if they sent me the wrong one or what, but I am done with it.

The anchor-room mirror bracket was an interesting fit, but she is in. The power tap, however, will be making the return trip to Va unless there are more tips out there.

great post.
Thank you?

Update: My car is at the dealership having some work done (cooled seat TSB, fix the bumper, fix easy entry seats). As soon as I get it back, I plan to try this again.

Yep, With a mirror tap it's simple, see this post for the pins to use:
Hi Guys. What is the hand drawn arrow on this diagram? Is the ground directly above where the switched power is or to the left where the arrow was drawn on?

Pretty sure it's the black. Not the white above the red

Yup, the diagram is right.... works great. Ground is definitely the middle bottom wire.

Just tapped my 16 using this info and works perfectly with the mirror tap. I used needle nose to push the pins all the way back and on the bottom part of the "box". Works great.

I know this is a really old thread.

Can someone please post a photo of where the mirror tap wires are inserted in the mirror plug. I have the large mirror enclosure. I think it's the 1st and 3rd wires but not sure what colour goes where.
Thanks!

Dang I forgot which colors were which. I don't want to pull it down to look since my radar detector and dash cam are mounted. I do know there are a couple of threads on here that show a pic of the wires.....you might have to do a little searching. I think I remember JCElp posting the colors.
