For everyone with an aftermarket amplifier in your car, did you and if so where did you put your upgraded ground to? Pictures would be nice….thank you.

I dont have any pics at the moment but i can tell you where i put my ground. I used under the rear seat. There is a big metal bracket that is bolted to the body of the car. Also there is the bolt that holds the upper portion of the back seat to the frame. Thats where i bolted my ground.

I think he’s talking about Upgrades ground from chassis to the battery.

I didn't upgrade the ground connection. On my system, not enough power draw to worry about.

For battery to chassis I used a section flat 2AWG which barely fit through the Hal-effect sensor so it wouldn’t freak out the BMS. For the system ground I used one of the bolts from the stock subwoofer mount. I sanded down the area around the hole and then used a stainless bolt with some dielectric grease.

I was a car stereo installer for 4 years while in college and spent 38 years in electrical construction, what the hec do you mean "upgraded ground"??

When you run another wire from the battery to the chassis so when you ground your amps to the chassis it’s a better ground to the battery. I believe most vehicles have a 4 gauge from the battery to the chassis stock. It’s part of the Big 3 Upgrade.

4 awg is about 0.25 milliohms per foot so if the amp is drawing 1000 amps the wire will drop 0.25 volts per foot. Is that too much?

By chance, did you apply the dielectric grease around the outside of your connection after installing the ground?

His question is completely vague. His reply to my post implies he is adding a second battery to chassis ground which has nothing to do with his original post which he is asking about the amplifier ground. Adding a parallel ground from a battery to a chassis is not a beneficial electrical thing to do since both ground cables would need to be of the same gauge, length and impedance. It would be better to remove the ground cable and install one of a larger AWG size. Since he doesn't list any amplifier specifications or the size of his existing ground cable there is no answer here.

I never said anything about adding a second battery or anything like that. Some people upgrade the ground to better help with grounding to the chassis from the amplifiers. Some people do the Big 3 and some just do the upgraded ground.
