Be very careful removing and reinstalling the rear-most screws as they're almost up against the glass. Just take your time.
Those screws are stupid. I couldn't believe how little clearance there was. I have some smudges to clean from the rear glass that I can barely get a cloth to because I put the package tray back in haha.

Also, since I have the 9 speaker system, which is missing only the sub, are the wires for the sub in the trunk somewhere? Could I use the power wires if they are?
When I tore everything out to put in sound deadening, I didn't find any obvious power wires or audio leads. However, there are 4 threaded holes that you could bolt down the sub in the factory location on the right side. There is also some kind of distribution wiring box that a harness is plugged into, and there's a free molex type connector there. I am not sure if this is prewired for the factory sub, or what its purpose is, but some suggested that's where the factory sub plugs in. So there might be power and signal already there.

Does the base stereo system filter the lows in the rear speakers the same way as the premium systems?

Thanks Bryman. By the way, those rear speakers were installed before the glass was put in. The glass is one of the last things installed at the factory.

I didn't. They added a nice amount of much needed treble and mids. You WILL notice.
How about the volume? Are they louder than the stock speakers?

They do seem to be louder as I can hear much more treble. You definitely know they're back there. Money well spent.

Looks good. I will swap out the rear deck speakers with the gto and see how that sounds. I am a little leary about the amplified sub cause I have an Ecoboost with the sound symposer. I have heard people have had difficulty with subs playing the piped in engine sound.

Good point. I think you'll like the JBL's. The included brackets make installing them easy.

I got the same gto629 's, should receive them tomorrow evening and install this weekend. Really interested in adding a small sub like that blaupunkt. Eagerly awaiting the results of your install

If you decide to add a 4ch amp to the speakers and you have a base system, your ok. But if you have a shaker or shaker pro, you'll need a summing interface or dsp to add a 4ch amp properly.
Gmac,
Thanks for the info. I have the base stereo in my V6 convertible. So I have rear speakers in the side panels (no rear deck ;o) A few Q's:
- Do you have any recommendations for door and rear side panel speakers?
- Done/seen any installs of the 80001nex head unit yet? I guess we still need an aftermarket bezel kit, which is not likely until fall?

All,
What is your experience of upgrading just speakers with base stereos (esp. convertibles ;o) ? What speakers did you use for doors (and rear sides in 'vert)?

I will update in a few days when I get the sub in. Also, I would be interested to know of any "bolt in" replacement speakers for the doors. Cost effective, of course. Is there a kit available?
