After putting the stereo through its paces last night, I'm pleased to say that Shaker Pro isn't going anywhere outta my ride. The system has potential, a few minutes with the EQ and Fader were enough to make her come alive.

I'm waiting on the exhaust to arrive before I take delivery of my 2015... But when I do, the next place it's heading is a local shop here in Ontario.

I have been dealing with them for the last 20+ years for my audio needs.

my 2008 shaker system only had the deck replaced. They then re-tuned all the speakers and crossover points along with the gains from the amps... it sounded amazing. People were shocked that it was all stock speakers and amps.

But, I've heard the 12 speaker system I will be getting in the new car.... With them doing away with the amazing woofers in the doors... they have really reduced the sound stage in the front of the car. Being a convertible for me, the Sub in the trunk will not affect my listening pleasure enough to make a difference.

In any case, he is currently developing a speaker and tunning setup for my car while keeping the stock deck. No changes will be made to speaker locations or sizes... This should be a simple retrofit of new speakers into original locations etc.

I will let you all know what kind of damage it is and how much of an improvement it will be over the stock setup as soon as I get it done. :)
Looking forward to seeing what your setup ends up being and what it costs. Although I feel plenty confident doing the work myself, it may be time that I just pay a professional to do it. Last time in my current car had some hiccups and I had to go a day without my radio which almost killed me.

The plate and the tweeter are powered directly by the radio, fortunately, and the signal can be amplified. The sub is powered by an amp in the driver's kick-panel, with an odd impedance and it is another story.
Don't think that's the case anymore. Unless there's some sort of pass-through going on here that isn't obvious, the Shaker systems in the S550 have amped component speakers.

I don't daily drive my Mustang so this time aropuind I'll probably do nothin. I put some time and money in my 2010 and hardly ever had the stereo on and then it was a MP3/CD. I did add an amp which powered the Shaker speakers in the doors swapped the other door speaker but left them run off the head unit. It was a huge improvement over stock. The hardest part was running new speaker wires to the door subs through the rubber connecting tube WFPITA.

Always love seeing what other people have done for aftermarket audio. Looking forward to seeing the build :) Don't leave out any of the good details!

Here are the components I used to upgrade my 400a Shaker. This sounds absolutely fantastic -- the sound hits you in the soul. It's prompted me to binge-buy re-mastered demo CDs like Brothers In Arms.

Front speakers: Focal PS 165 F3
Rear deck: Focal PC 165
Sub: JBL CS-110LGTW
Amp: Alpine PDX V9
LOC: Audio Control DQ-61

The DQ-61 is used in summing mode powered by the speaker-level outputs of the stock 400a amp. Ch1 is from the front tweeter output, Ch2 is from the front full range output.

Frequency response is 30hz to 16khz -- possibly more, but that's all I heard from the test tones. 30hz is about 10bd lower than 40hz, then everything is flat all the way up to 16khz.

My only complaint is there is ambient white noise in the system from the LOC when the volume is all the way down. One of these days I'll check to see if the supposed line-level outputs provide a more useful signal. I have a female connector I got from mouser.com (Molex #34690-0160) so I don't have to splice the wires, but I need to find time to solder some RCAs to it.

Very nice set-up. I've heard great things about those Focal's.

Hearing up to 16kHz is normal for an adult human ear. Last time I tested myself I capped out around there as well. The speakers can still respond above that to get the micro details from layered sounds. I would imagine the words "crisp and clear" are an accurate way of describing those tweeters :D

I experience the white noise as well from using the output of the factory amp for an input to my system, and I am also looking into re-doing the wiring to use the factory amp inputs instead of the outputs. I have a feeling this may become the more go-to route for people doing all-out builds.

Good to hear you're enjoying it. I'm impatiently waiting for a 4-channel amp to come in the mail. It's the only component I'm currently missing for my build :frusty:

This is what I've found so far on the audio for the mustangs.

Base Audio:
Front: 3/4in Tweets and 6.5in Mids
Rear: 6.5in Mids

Shaker:
Center Channel: not sure the size
Fronts: 3/4in Tweets, 3.5in Mid/high, and 6.5in Mids, basically a 3way compnents setup in the front doors.
Rear: 3/4in Tweets and 6.5in Mids, the tweets are mounted on top of the 6.5in Mids to make a full range speaker

Shaker Pro:
Same as Shaker but with a 10in subwoofer.

You will not get any good bass out of the Base Audio or Shaker sound system because they have no lows. The Shaker and Shaker Pro systems both use amplifiers which are located in the driver kick panel area. Now the speakers in all the cars all basically suck. Because they suck the factory stereo and amplifiers have been specially tuned from the factory so that the speakers don't blow from being cranked which is why each system is lacking. A digital signal processer (DSP) like a JBL MS-8, Fosgate 3sixty.3, Alpine PXA-H800, or ZAPCO DSP-Z8 will make a huge difference. Replacing the speakers will give you clarity and sharper bass but that's about it. The factory radio and amplifiers jus arent very good as well.

I do not believe that the Shaker premium 9 speaker system has coaxials for the back deck, just 6.5's

Correct, this is how Ford calculates 2 extra speakers and 1 sub to get to the 400a stereo ;)

You're right I forgot its a 12 speaker system in the Pro, there is no tweets in the rear deck for the 9 speaker Shaker system. Thats what makes that Shaker system honestly almost worthless.

My pony, finally
I just received my RF 10" subwoofer, I need to improve that lack of bass. My biggest problem is with the crappy sound I get from the rear deck speakers. I think that maybe replacing them with a couple of Rockford 3 way speakers the audio will be crisper.

Bu the base system can be modified into a great system so easily, because you don't have to worry about the weird amplifiers. That use of poor external amplifiers driving individual speakers was originally the Bose approach. That was also a difficult system to modify inexpensively.
