No, the analogy would be if an ICE gas tank size shrunk 8% by 100k miles. The EV power remains the same, just like an ICE engine makes the same power regardless of tank size. SMH
Hello; for what it may be worth after I made my post this morning it occurred to me, I may have gotten the battery deg wrong. During a rethink i came to the same idea you post. A shrinking gas tank analogy.

Amperage flow rate does not decrease until the battery is quite low. All battery powered tools and vehicles have to function this way,
Hello; I have and have had a number of battery hand tools. What you point out is the way the tools run. Good power for a while then a sudden drop. Also, a part of my rethink.

A question remains. Is mileage what degrades an EV battery or just time???

The number and depth of charge/discharge cycles are what degrades batteries. Miles are pretty meaningless to a battery and a brushless motor will last many years.

Chinese car makers have started to use sodium-ion batteries instead of lithium-ion, in their EVs. . I believe GM is also going that route. Sodium-ion charges faster, easier and far safer. It discharges faster and fuller and isn't temperature sensitive. Obviously, much cheaper than lithium. too. This likely to have some positive effect on charge/discharge cycles, but that's above my pay grade.

Not a surprise. You clearly have long had confirmation bias cranked up to 11.

Depends on battery technology used in the vehicle and usage patterns. If it helps think of it like ICE compression (and HP) loss over time from wear. But without the accompanying significant time, expense, risk and unavailability due to maintenance over 100k miles.

There probably doesn't exist an auto service business that hasn't scratched, dented or wrecked some customer's car working on or test driving. And there are zero that haven't done at least one of the following: used the wrong type or amount of fluid, left some wire loose, over or under tightened bolts or scuffed the seats, charged for work or parts never done, etc., etc..

I completely understand some tolerate that out of ignorance or special needs (like hauling plywood, long road trips across the Canadian tundra) or financial constraints or aesthetic reasons (like engine sounds).

I am just glad I have none of those afflictions other than keeping a Mustang GT on the side for the vroom, vroom and wrist exercise. 😄

I swear on a stack of bibles David did not just pen that after seeing recent posts in this thread.

Study reveals halving human population gradually could help Earth

Hello; some 51 years ago I was an advocate for Zero Population Growth (ZPG). The idea was for couples to limit their number of offspring to one each or two per couple. Did not work out of course as the human population has exploded since that time.
i guess the point of this post is to say i am skeptical the human population will be voluntarily halved over the next two hundred years. The math is very different for reducing an already large population from the math of slowing population growth as was suggested 50+ years ago.

I do not quibble with the idea that a big reduction of population can and will relieve the stress on the environment & demand for resources. I simply cannot imagine people doing something so sensible.

Among the many terms which can be used when discussing population along with the environment a good term is carrying capacity. Are we at or near the planet's capacity?

Are we already beyond the sustainable capacity already in a sense? By that I mean are we living on a rich but dwindling natural inheritance. By the time we technically gifted humans came along we had huge aquifers, lots, lots of topsoil, huge coal & petroleum reserves and huge forests. We have not quite yet depleted these inherited riches but are actively trying hard to.

You are a huge proponent of fossil fuels. I'm surprised you would post something like this.

Your last paragraph seems out of place, considering your previously stated views, opposing alternate energy....
