No, the analogy would be if an ICE gas tank size shrunk 8% by 100k miles. The EV power remains the same, just like an ICE engine makes the same power regardless of tank size. SMH
Hello; for what it may be worth after I made my post this morning it occurred to me, I may have gotten the battery deg wrong. During a rethink i came to the same idea you post. A shrinking gas tank analogy.

Amperage flow rate does not decrease until the battery is quite low. All battery powered tools and vehicles have to function this way,
Hello; I have and have had a number of battery hand tools. What you point out is the way the tools run. Good power for a while then a sudden drop. Also, a part of my rethink.

A question remains. Is mileage what degrades an EV battery or just time???

The number and depth of charge/discharge cycles are what degrades batteries. Miles are pretty meaningless to a battery and a brushless motor will last many years.

Chinese car makers have started to use sodium-ion batteries instead of lithium-ion, in their EVs. . I believe GM is also going that route. Sodium-ion charges faster, easier and far safer. It discharges faster and fuller and isn't temperature sensitive. Obviously, much cheaper than lithium. too. This likely to have some positive effect on charge/discharge cycles, but that's above my pay grade.

Not a surprise. You clearly have confirmation bias cranked up to 11.

Depends on battery technology used in the vehicle and usage patterns. If it helps think of it like ICE compression (and HP) loss over time from wear. But without the accompanying significant time, expense, risk and unavailability due to maintenance over 100k miles.

There probably doesn't exist an auto service business that hasn't scratched, dented or wrecked some customer's car working on or test driving. And there are zero that haven't done at least one of the following: used the wrong type or amount of fluid, left some wire loose, over or under tightened bolts or scuffed the seats, charged for work or parts never done, etc., etc..

I completely understand some tolerate that out of ignorance or special needs (like hauling plywood, long road trips across the Canadian tundra) or financial constraints or aesthetic reasons (like engine sounds).

I am just glad I have none of those afflictions other than keeping a Mustang GT on the side for the vroom, vroom and wrist exercise. :wink: 😄
