Typical for the source. There was NO vote to raise dealership fees by any amount. The bill just adjusted the ridiculous and totally meaningless price fixing "attempt" they previously set.

Dealers always could and still can charge what they can get for any vehicle. It was ludicrous to set a previous lower limit for what a dealer "calls" document fees and just as ridiculous to raise it. As if a previous cap of $85 or this current formula didn't mean the dealer won't just adjust how much they negotiate the "purchase" price or any other box on the contract.

I'm sorry. This is a capitalist economy. Buyer decides what they will pay and if the seller won't agree, they should walk. If a dealer wants to itemize a $85, $488, or $5,000 document fee who cares? Nobody cares what the seller overhead is. They don't care what a dealer actually pays for document fees which clearly are not based in any way on a percentage of the purchase price anyway. Just like they don't care what the dealer electric bills are or cut of vending machine sales is.

Raise your hand if you ever embarked on the fool's errand to separately negotiate each and every factor a dealer uses to "justify" their price? I mean other than those who want Wack-A-Mole to become an Olympic sport. Who among you would care if a dealer said $5000 or $10 of what you are willing to pay goes toward document fees or a new boat for the general manager? Capitalism!!! Might as well pass a law that says Lionesses can only run down the fastest gazelles.

Is any buyer stupid enough to decide they will pay another 1% of MSRP for no other reason than being told some law says the dealer can call it a document fee? Okay, yes, there are probably lots of dummies. But no laws raise IQs.

This has no effect on anyone who decides what a product is worth to them and refuses to pay more.

I suppose some fast-food burger fans would go broke if the same moron legislators passed a bill to ALLOW McD to charge $50 for pickles if they itemized them. LoL

‘Unfairly sacked’ hero police officer tackles shoplifter
Hello; This sort of story makes me wonder how things got twisted around so much. The police officer took down a knife wielding criminal but did not speak politely enough to the criminal so lost his job. At least such is how I get the story.
Later as a citizen he takes down a shoplifter and is hailed as a hero.
Story made me thing of a scene from one of the Dirty Harry movies. Eastwood is being chewed out for stopping a crime. He reminds his boss that the boss told him to clean up the area. The boss replies "I did no say to use violence".

Hello; A thing to keep in mind is the car dealers practice this stuff every day. I imagine they even train each other. I agree it is a waste of time to challenge the details of a deal.
Get a price figured in your head and stick to it. I have had it work both ways. A couple of times the dealer re wrote the deal after i declared I would not pay their doc fee.
On other occasions, generally more recently, they have let me walk. I guess their strategy works as long as someone else comes in and pays up.

Hello; A disturbing read. While I am not acutely familiar with all the players in this story the overall gist is easy enough to follow. A cautionary tale.
let us hope the next three years will give us a chance to change the course of events in the USA. Saw but did not read a story of how car companies can challenge the no ICE sales in states such as California. We have a chance to save ourselves.

For those living in strife with a spouse or significant other where you've bent over backwards countless times, eaten crow with a variety of spices, and considered as many outcomes that your imagination will allow. You're not alone.

It's a regular for me. 3-5x per year. 19 years and counting. Even when it's not one sided, it's painful and difficult. How much longer, who knows. Can't reason with sick/nuts/angry.

2.5 weeks and no dialog as of yet which in a sense is a relief. A break from the incessive complaining, a break from repetition yet still painful knowing how simply it all can be resolved.

If you are paired with someone really compatible, understand how fortunate you are.

Hello; Been thinking about your posts. While I do not know enough detail about your situation to be of help, I do sympathize.
That there are no children ought to make dealing with the situation much easier. Such was a blessing in hindsight with my failed marriages. Takes a very troublesome & worrisome factor off the table.
Speaking generally that leaves two or three main avenues to consider. A big one may be financial considerations. Things such as can each individual support themselves on their own. If you own property how will that work out. I have known of miserable marriages which continue because of such issues. An ideal situation might be both spouses can get by on their own.

A second thing is emotional in the sense of loving the person you married but not the person they turned into. We make vows in the beginning with one being a "for better or worse" part. Not easy to deal with, I know.

I do not know what becomes "too much" for someone else. I reached that point for myself under particular circumstances. You are miserable and will have to decide what you can stand. I wish you the best and much the same for your spouse. I suspect there are two miserable people.

I have been alone since 1987. Some times I reflect on what happened. Most often I decide being alone is better than being married.

Hope you get to a better place.
