I get a lot longer range from the garage door transmitter than the homelink on the Mustang. This is the first time it has happened with one of my cars. Normally I get the same range butnot this time. I have a Chamberlains Access Master.

The videos contradict the Homelink website. For Genie Intellicode 2 the video shows just putting it into program mode (red LED) and sync to Homelink.

The Homelink website says you still have to program the opener itself (into learn mode and follow the instructions)

The 2015 Mustang has the newest version of HomeLink, Generation 5, and is the most compatible with the current garage door openers. It still must be paired by pushing the button with certain garage door openers because the garage door opener itself has old technology.

Range is affected by the position of the visor to the garage door opener. Your new 2015 Mustang has a lower roof and the transmitter can't transmit through metal, so you may notice issues if the line of sight from your garage door opener to the HomeLink module is through your roof.

If you have problems pairing with your garage door, see www.homelink.com or the Ford youtube videos:

very useful

will have to use this

My door open has a better range than the universal one in the Mustang. Also, the color and number of "flashes" of the Mustang's LED's when I programmed it did not match the video's or instructions. But once I ignore this, it programmed fine. Now I have 2 free button to use elsewhere. Oh yeah, the remote on my Mustang doesn't even have the little "house" around the center button...

The HomeLink site has better detail. There is a generation of Genie openers that must be put into the programming mode, some do not. The Ford video is more generic and does not cover the Genie openers with the issue.

Sort of on topic since it is about the Universal Garage Opener.

Does anybody know if the Opener assembly can be installed by the dealership on a car that did not get it as a factory option?

My Chamerlain Universal Garage Opener has more than 2x the range of the one in my Mustang.

I have to drive up super close to the curb to open the garage to my house, and then when I exit (I back in), I have to flip the visor out and point it toward my garage to close it. When I drive to my parents' house, I have to be about a foot away from the garage to open their garage.

I hope that's not the norm.

Yes, you can add HomeLink as an aftermarket accessory. You would have to ask if your dealer would be willing, but there are multiple options. You can add it in the visor, but you will need to add wiring to power the module. Or you can simple change the rearview mirror with a version that has HomeLink built in, it will already be powered when you plug in the mirror power cord. This is a dealer installed accessory.

See this website for options to add HomeLink products: http://www.brandmotion.com/homelink/homelink.html

Also, see this version of the rearview mirror, it has HomeLink and is also frameless and has a compass. It looks much more modern than the mirror in the Mustang, and it is simple to replace. It will generally also not be blocked by the metal roof like the one in the visor and therefore be able to activate the garage door from further away.

On my '14 I was able to buy a visor with home link from a dealer and install it myself in 5 minutes. That visor was wired so that the mirror light and home link got power from the same connector. I doubt the '15 is different.

I also have to be a few feet from my garage door to have this work. the home link in my wifes passat can be about 50 ft away.

I'm back to using the transmitter that came with my opener, it works at least 7 houses from mine. When I hit my drive it's already completely open...The POS in the Mustang is around 2-3 houses in range-->:frusty:

I can't even get mine to pair. :frusty:

I called up HomeLink to walk me through it, but even they were baffled.

I'll have the Ford dealership try to do the initial remote pairing (where it fails, even with fresh batteries and a new remote) when I go in for my first oil change.
Ford ended up not being able to do much about my HomeLink. They thought it could be an issue with my opener.

However, I finally figured out my HomeLink issue! Universal remotes wouldn't pair with the HomeLink in the car, but I was able to track down a Craftsman remote (same make as my opener), and it successfully paired! :headbonk:

This is my first car with HomeLink, and I'm glad it finally works! Huzzah!

For info, if you've installed LED lighting, in or outside the garage, they might very well be impacting the range or use of your remotes. I had picked up some very inexpensive LED bulbs (hey it was just the garage), and original and homelink was terrible. Replaced with more expensive (and I believe shielded) LED lights and all working much better.

my SHO worked 6-7 houses up the street. The mustang is 3-4 houses. Not a big deal for me.
