tunning question

ok so im thinking about finally tunning my car im pretty dead set on the nguage however heres my problem i normally run 87 and will run a tank of 93 once a month or so or when ever i wanna drive a little more spirited im thinking about getting a flex fuel tune my understanding is i can go from 93 to e85 or any sort of mixture of the two with out any issues my question is does lund offer an 87 tune or is there any possible way i can run a steeda or bama 87 tune on the nguage also is it safe to run 87 on the flex fuel tune im thinking if i can that might give me all three fuel options im looking for which are 87,93, and e85

Pretty sure you need either 91 or 93 as a base map for the flex fuel tune. I don't know if they offer an 87 tune, but I don't think it would be very beneficial. You'd only be able to advance timing so much before it starts knocking on 87. 93 on a stock tune would most likely be more powerful and smoother than an 87 tune.

because it runs on 87 just fine its like what a 5 hp loss i know that gap will be larger once tuned but if you cant answer the question then move along i asked for assistance on the matter not your personal opinion :cheers:

Join Costco. Run 93. only a 20-30 cent premium over the already cheap 87 at Costco. Also new Costco CC gives 4% cashback on gas. All other gas stations = 40-60 cent premium cost for 93 over 87.

probably a good idea gas stations in my area tend to be a 30-40 cent difference which is bs but only time ive ever noticed a real difference between 87 and 93 has been at one particular shell station with the nitro bs additive for 93 which leads me to believe that all the others are selling you 93 and giving you 87

You won't see much of a difference on stock tune running 87, you are right, but for your tune....... you need to be running at least 91 or 93 (or whatever it is tuned for) I don't think they do 87 tunes, and if they did, it wouldn't be worth it more than likely. Costco is literally the only place that doesn't overcharge for 93 and it is Tier 1 gas.

Not that I know of, there is only a gauge for alchohol % if you plan to run E85. but there are sensors for KNOCK and such.... as long as you aren't seeing positive KNOCK on the gauge under WOT you are good to go. I see negative knock numbers on my lund 93 tune under WOT which means it is actually adding a bit of timing. Running Costco/Shell 93 gas usually.

I would have to agree that regardless of what octane you use now, once you start talking about tuning (not "tunning") it, the point is to make as much power as possible, safely. This is going to be done using the highest octane possible. While I would guess that it's feasible that there could be an 87 octane tune out there that would make a bit more power than the stock tune, if you really want to get the most out of it, you'll probably have to go to 91 or 93 (depending where you live).

I'm not an expert on the Flex Fuel tune (I'm currently running stock but am itching to tune in the near future) but I would guess that it should work regardless of octane. I thought the whole point was that it reads the knock levels and adjusts timing and everything else accordingly. As such, it will definitely be down on power but it seems like it should work with 87. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject can chime in.

Agreed. Give her what the manufacturer says . If you can't afford the extra ~0.50 in gas per gallon then go buy a Honda.

if they asked for premium fuel id be more than happy to use it like i said cost difference is a load of bs but ive used both and notice no difference unless i go with shells top of the line fuel so yea unless ford says car requires premium im not wasting my money unless im tuned

At least you guys have 93:(. 91 best around here, and E85 only a couple stations well out of my daily way...
