This is what I was referring too, sorry for the confusion, there is more videos and articles than this. I hope that this motor is again under rated and Ford isn't just finally telling the truth about this motor.
If they didn't do the internal changes to the motor I would understand your concern.

I hope that this motor is again under rated and Ford isn't just finally telling the truth about this motor.

Where is this concern coming from? Are you not expecting the 2015 5.0 to put down more power to the tires than the previous car?

Where is this concern coming from? Are you not expecting the 2015 5.0 to put down more power to the tires than the previous car?
I'm wondering if the new 5.0 will have more horsepower at the wheels than the 2011 5.0. We were told that there was changes to this motor to make it more like the boss motor IE more horsepower at the crank. I think myself and most people are assuming the new motor will make more power. does power more power at the crank not always translate to more power at the wheels? I realize that the only way to know for sure is to get it on a dyno.

To summarize my previous comment I expect the 5.0 to put more power down at the wheel than the previous generation.

The only thing that would stop the new 5.0 from making more power to the ground than the old one is if there's increased drivetrain loss due to the irs. More than likely it will still gain whp over the previous model. Whether or not it will still be enough to overcome the weight gain...i don't know. I think someone else mentioned how much power is needed to overcome the slight gain in weight. I just can't remember what it is.

BTW both Edmunds and Motortrend used 4th gear for their dyno pulls instead of 5th. Motortrend got their 435hp claim by using a 15% drivetrain loss, on top of the 4th gear pull.
And this is why I don't like chassis dynos and I hate those cheap little DynoJets. Chassis dynos (most) are ONLY good for setting a fuel curve and from what I've seen that's a little shaky.

The point Grimace has been trying to make it: It's all calculations based off of correction multipliers. These numbers are in the eye of the beholder (the guy with the calculator)

There are far to many variables with a chassis dyno unless the wheels are physically bolted to the dyno. This set up tends to make people honest in a hurry.

Since when does IRS cause additional drivetrain loss? There is minimal pinion angle change on IRS because the center section is mounted almost directly inline with the output shaft of the transmission and changes only slightly. A solid rear axle moves the driveshaft all over the place.

Again what weight gain? The difference between a driver weighing 220 and 150?

I mentioned it as a consideration because whenver you change something in the drivetrain...well power to the ground can change. Relax stop being such a fanboy, I have my order in as well, it's ok to be objective you know. I don't know and you don't know, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

All cars should be measured at the wheels and it would be awesome if SAE used a standardized method for this, say a certain dynojet with specific software for repeatable results.
This would be so awesome. Maybe adjust the figures for a density altitude of zero feet ASL.

No I don't think that's what he was referring to with weight. He was calling it as negligible as having a lighter person driving the car vs a heavier person, which is true but you are always going to have that variance in weight between drivers. So 87lbs added to the car will always have to be accounted for by the motor.

And I think you fail to realize the point I am trying to make. Just because the engine increased in HP doesn't necessarily mean it's true power to weight ratio has increased any. it's WHP has to increase to offset the weight. I brought up the possibility of increased drivetrain loss due to IRS negating some of that hp gain in the engine. I said nothing in reference to weight having anything to do with dyno numbers, which is pretty clear it doesn't. But thank you for playing :clap2: :doh: :thumbsup:

You statement is only true because you use "can"..

...and you use terms like "true power".. ?

We know things can happen.. Unlikely that it is slower. TQ to weight is better, thus better..

I'd be interested to see exactly how much of an effect going to a IRS would really have? That far down the line I would think it would be negligable to loss experienced elsewhere.
