Hi: My trunk lock would not allow closure. When it did after some minutes, it then would not allow opening operation! In between, the lock was cycling many times a second. Since that time, the camera has lost its "guidance stripes' ie the red/yellow/green. I tried to manually open trunk, as did dealer, via the key near DS back seat, but that failed as well. Dealer says the lock mechanism has failed as they could not get it to open, and they want to shimmy back through the back seat to replace the lock. Of course they can't give an estimate for the work as they've never done this repair. I know there is a recall on the trunk/camera wiring harness, and also a simpler fix to just splice the wires severed due to trunk hinge usage. They are willing to submit trunk lock repair cost to Ford as 'related damage' to the wiring recall, but no guarantees, of course. If anyone has had this happen - should I try to DIY, or let the dealer handle it? Best YouTube video for the issue?

Any advice appreciated! Cheers! S

Just lower the seats and use something to pop the trunk by the emergency pull handle in the trunk, Then fix the wires. It’s easy

There's a recall on that wiring failing. Your issue may be related to that recall.

The lock issue is related to the recall.

If that Service Center can't manually pop a trunk lid by the emergency release pull string as outlined in the Owners Manual - then you need to find another Ford Dealer who has more competent people.

The trunk lock/popper and other weird electrical issues are related to the rear camera harness failure - the harness doesn't just contain the wires for the camera. In some instances it can even affect the Sirius/XM signal.

Here's some threads that will help. Harness location and fixes: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...op-working-heres-the-fix.117245/#post-2465359

DIY it? Sure you couid do it as many others have in the threads above. But if it's part of a recall, the Dealership ahouid be the one to fix it under the NHTSA recall - which is here:

This is a convertible so the rear seat must be removed I believe.
