The temp sensor is located on the side of the transmission between the fill plug and the drain plug. It is in a blind pocket in the case and does not contact any fluid. You can remove it easily without anything leaking, if you want to check it out.
That is one reason there is a concern that using the fill and drain plug ports for an added cooling system may not be giving accurate readings related to the rest of the transmission. The cooled fluid would be entering the top of the case, flow past the sensor and picked up at the bottom of the case about 7" away. My thought is that any cooled oil circulated through a small portion of the transmission will help the entire unit cool down, even if the sensor is reading lower relative temperatures.
