Well, so far from what I have seen on here, 2 taps gets you Sport mode on a base GT

Most cars (no matter the manufacturer) one press of the traction/stability control button turns off the traction/stability 80% of the way, then holding down the button for 3 or 5 seconds fully defeats the stability/traction control. My guess is, if you have a base model Mustang with Performance Package holding the button down to fully defeat the traction/stability puts you into a sport+ mode or something equal to track mode.

The difference between sport+ and track modes is probably very small anyway.

Hi Carguy,
Thanks for the post! Do you own the Base GT? What happens if you double tap the traction control button? Just 2 fast pushes of the button.
Yes I have a base GT PP with cloth Recaro....the only way to get it IMO.

If 2 taps gets you sport mode, will 3 taps get you track mode?
Hope this is true, didn't try that but I will later.

For that mode I did the quick two press of the traction control button. I tried a quick 3 press and it just cycles it back to on.
press and hold for 5 to 7 sec.

that usually does it in for the nannys on most cars.

if there is no way to turn stability control of for a base car with a PP that is just sad!

beers

Yea, I really wish we could get some clear answers here. If the PP GT is going to be limited, I'll wait and buy a VW Golf R instead.

Just wanted to chime in here...I'm not sure if this is still an active debate, but I just bought a base GT and I was messing around with the features.

Ford uses two systems (across every model) to help keep the car properly seated on the road. Those are Traction Control and Stability Control. Ford's "AdvanceTrac" is simply their term for stability control...it is not a separate system.

Taken from page 143 of my manual...

"The electronic stability control system helps avoid skids and lateral slides. The traction control system helps avoid drive wheel spin and loss of traction".

Both systems are on by default every time that the car is started. When I pressed my stability control button (the only button we have) once, the car indicates that traction control is off, and the indicator light comes on to confirm:

Stability control is still ON, there is no separate indicator light for this system.

When I pressed my stability control button twice rapidly, the car indicates that AdvanceTrac SPORT MODE is on, and the indicator light comes on:

Taken directly from my manual..."Sport mode allows the driver to reduce normal AdvanceTrac system intervention and provide a more spirited driving experience. For vehicles equipped with the selectable drive mode feature, Advance Trac sport mode is not available. You can utilize the performance oriented AdvanceTrac mode by selecting track driving mode".

So in this mode on the base car...both the traction control and stability control system are still ON, they are just tuned to intervene less. The wording in the manual is terrible, but taken at face value I am taking this to mean that base model AdvaceTrac Sport Mode = premium model Track mode (in regards to how these two systems interact with the car).

When I held my stability control button for 5 secods, the car indicates that AdvanceTrac is off, and the indicator light comes on:

In this situation...all systems are completely off.

There is no mention in the manual that throttle inputs and/or response is altered in any of these modes on the base GT. I believe that throttle response is only adjusted in the premium cars with the toggle switch. But as was mentioned a couple times in this thread, it's likely more of a gimmick in that your right foot is just doing less work to produce that response. That can be attained in the base GT with MOAR RIGHT FOOT!

That's GREAT info man. Thank you for that and the detailed pictures! Makes me feel a little better about ordering the PP GT.

Let me give it a shot, r-model. ;)

• Track – Provides a performance driving experience. The engine responds
directly to your inputs and takes on a more powerful tone. Track mode is for
use when pure performance is desired. A performance oriented AdvanceTrac
mode is automatically utilized when Track drive mode is selected. In this
mode, AdvanceTrac intervention is reduced and tuned specifically for track
usage only and is not intended for public roads. See Using Stability Control (page 144).

While I believe you are correct about stability and traction control, the Track mode in the premium is believed to also adjust throttle response and other engine parameters. If that holds true then the base GT, when set as you indicated, is only half of the equation. Thus, the base GT != the premium GT track mode.

All of that aside, I believe the base GT is the way to go. Track mode to me is a gimmick at best. Both the base GT and Premium still have the same HP/TQ numbers and when you floor it I believe they would both behave identically.

Base GT w/ PP is the only way to go in my opinion. Anything else is compromising or adding "fluff"...
