I guess the same thing as why would they put track and driving modes in a base
...because it's a premium feature....everyone wants a handout with the base models.....BASE.

No, everyone would like to be able to order all options they want and not be lumped into a $4000+ "Package" of things they don't want without a ridiculous up-charge for the individual "features". Offer a package discount but still leave it to the customer to decide what they can get. It might take longer to build but shouldn't be more expensive.
Ala carte ordering Would increase the price in general for the vehicle and those separate choices. Though by going to an ala carte system then everyone will complain because they have to pay $3000 more and the car takes a month longer to build.
Having an individual option... As in a little here and a little there can actually increase cost That individual option can slow down the assembly line versus having a grouped package... Having that, anything in that group gets installed and makes it simplistic versus complicating the build/production process>>> more exotic cars to give you the options you desire...some things are still an optioned group package but there are many individual options like on a Lambo...alot of the cars are hand built and produced in limited numbers and take much longer to build.
base is lighter
maybe lighter but those who want the premium trims are willing to and able to pay the price for it... Just because you have the base with a performance package...along with whatever options you chose... does not mean that there will be a great difference in weight with a premium... maybe a couple hundred lbs. that is like having a passenger and whatever junk in the trunk you have riding with you in a base trim model.

I can understand streamlining the production process to save time and money, whether it is for the Company or the Customer is debatable, but I'm the one buying the product and it always seems they structure it to push you up into a padded package to get a couple features deliberately instead of giving you more choices. I'm not saying they don't all do it, some just do it better than others and I'm not talking Exotics.
I can understand that...Its just that the premium has exactly the options i wanted along with the radio...toggles leather among other things...I always opt for the best audio systems factory. It was a very easy selection. no need for reverse sensing, Nav, adaptive cruise control or rain sensing wipers, 50th appearance or even the premium trim. I like functional practicality along with luxury & handling suited for an Audi sport coupe
I'm guessing you don't have a firm grasp on your surroundings. Life is about up selling you to another product.
You are making my point, it is more about maximizing the profit margin than focusing on the customer that is providing said profit. A good healthy debate was not my intention, so I will get off my soapbox and go back to anticipating my Ingot Silver Mustang GT base that should be delivered in a few weeks and I'll be happy with the compromises I had to make based on the choices I was given.
