They always seem to allow something ridiculous like +-5 PSI before they light up. Now if they were digital pressure gauges and read live PSI in each tire to a display... that would be endlessly useful.

Mine were 10 PSI over (!) at delivery and they didn't light up.

10 PSI over what? What the door says? What the owners manual says? What the max inflation on the tire says?

Most tires have a 50+psi max inflation which would be 18 psi higher than what the door says. Too much air is rarely a problem.

TPMS are there mainly to let you know when the pressure is too low. So your explorer doesn't flip over for driving on your bridgestone tires when they separate with 14psi of air in them because you didn't properly maintain your vehicle. They help solve for this case.

Over the door#, and I'll tell you why I'm bothering to mention it:

I drove 240 miles home from the dealership.. when I checked my tires, they had no evidence of road contact on the edges of the intended contact patch. While not necessarily dangerous, I certainly want to prevent uneven wear.

Others who are not so mechanically inclined as us, particularly here in Arizona, may find their tires overinflated when the weather changes.

Edit: and those were Firestones on the Exploder, which is even more ominous.

I have wheels scheduled for delivery today with factory TPMS (GT PP Black Wheels).

I'm gonna get them powdered coated. The TPMS & Valve stems must be removed before stripping the Black paint...Will I be able to reuse them?...Do I need a special valve-stem to work with the TPMS, if I'm not able to reuse the factory installed stems?

What is the lifespan of the TPMS Battery, is it replaceable like an android cell battery or not replaceable like an iPhone?

So we seem to have a few people that have aftermarket TPMS on their 2015. Does it work? Are you seeing the tire pressures in the dash? Any warning lights?

Well, found one answer:

Batteries inside the sensors usually last for about a decade.

Battery rarely serviceable; if the battery is drained, the whole sensor must be changed.

Please keep us updated on this process and post a thread to the general discussion forum / tire/wheel forum with how the removal process, powdercoating process, and reattachment process went. I know me and at least 2 others are planning to do this same thing and could benefit greatly from the information. Looking forward to actually SEEING the PP pattern in a metallic color.

You will probably be able to salvage part of the sensor for re-use but not all of it. It is my understanding that there's this little nut made of a soft metal that you'll only get one use out of, and maybe some other little component you'll need to replace. Try searching over on the Brake & Front End site under 'TPMS' - I know I've read this in the print version of that repair industry magazine.

I have heard rumors that the 2014 TPMS will work. I have a set in my wheels that are on the way. I should have answers next week if they work.

My Local dealer got me TPMS and he programed these to my EcoBoost with 315 Mhz. If I would change the car, I could use the winter tires on a different car with no problems at all. The programmable TPMS were $60 each.

We only sell OEM sensors, the 11-14 will NOT work on the 15's as we've already tested. We also do wheel and tire packages that include OEM sensors.
