Dang, it's hard to get what you want in tires right now. Everything I've looked for that I want is usually missing one of the sizes with no ETA from the manufacturer. So I've narrowed it down to two options.

*caveat...this is not a tire recommendation thread. This thread is about the two options listed below...

I really really wanted to try the GY Supercar 3, but no ETA on the 305/30 from GY. So, my choices are these...

Another set of Conti SportContacts (that I actually really like and have served me well) for ~$1,500 ...or...
Try out GY Supercar 3R for ~$950

I know the 3R will not even remotely last as long as the Conti, but at approaching 1/2 the price, should it be a contender? My only other concern is cooler temperature driving with this tire. Probably not much (approaching) freezing temp driving, and almost no curvy road agressive driving in the colder months. Just maybe some late fall early spring stuff.

Anywho...mostly just thinking outloud, just to have a convo...thanks guys.

Agree with Bikeman...the 3R is not by any means a street tire. They are borderline dangerous until they are warmed up (to track temps....you'll never get them warm enough on the street.)

Between those two options, definitely go the Conti route

Woah. Yeah, i had not read a review(s) quite that condemning before. That's worse than the Cup2's, LOL. How are all these Camaro guys coping (the one's they come stock on?)?

OP, i am in your area. I have the Continental extreme contact sports and they are great around the road here. I will say 2 weekends ago, I was not liking them on a morning drive out in wine country when temps were below 40 the previous night. I am very new to the track and they did great at Gateway on Tuesday. However another guy drove my car at 7/10s and said they were ok, but that he would toss em.

I am no expert, just giving you my impressions of the conditions you will probably drive in.

I may be wrong here, but I think the 3R only came on the ZL1 1LE, which didn't sell a ton and most of those drivers probably knew to be easy on the street.
Not sure if the base ZL1 came with the 3R or the regular Supercar 3

that's correct, 3R is ZL1 1LE only, SS 1LE is getting just the 3's.

to OP - I know you don't want a recommendation, but I had great experience with Indy 500's on the street and the price is very good on them

+1 for the Conti ECS for an excellent street tire. Another poster mentioned, when the temps are below 45 they take a little bit to warm up so gotta take it a little easy. I daily mine (except for winter then I switch over to winter wheels and tires) and this is my second Mustang I’ve had them on. Zero complaints. I don’t track mine so not sure they perform on the track but that’s not their main purpose

Thanks for the input guys. I'm currently running the Conti's right now (note I said "another set" ;-) and very familiar with them. I agree with all your comments and while it may not be a track monster of a tire, I tell anyone that will listen it is a very underestimated and overlooked tire. Forgot the number (it's way over 200), but for a tire with this treadwear rating, it's a surpriser. I'll most likely go this route since the 3's aren't available. It's a damn great looking tire too!

Just brewed my 2nd pot. I think the cooler temps eff with my brain. I am from FL originally so that could be the issue.
Haha I’m a lifelong Chicagoan and I still get thrown off by the colder weather LOL
