TOMTOP 8" Touchscreen Upgrade: Post-Install Issues & Help Thread

My dealer install one of those security box on my mustang to track my car incase it was stolen. I wonder if i will have the same problem later on if i remove the negative cable

You may. My last new car had one of these, and it was a PAIN. It was "disabled" and I never had a problem with it until I pulled the cable to install HID's a few weeks after I bought the car and couldn't figure out why my car wouldn't start, and then remembered the little security box. I called the dealer I bought the car from and one of the techs walked me through how to completely disabled it over the phone and I never had a problem again even after disconnecting the battery to do things countless times after. My understanding is they work (at least the one I had) by simply just cutting power.

thanks guys going to call the dealer later on to see what are the steps for disable this damn thing if later i encouter this problem

I was tempted to rip the entire thing out, but did not due to this very reason. I had a feeling "ripping it out" would cause nothing but problems so I took the time to screw with it. I ended up finding a little card with instructions on how to get it into valet mode, and then I was able to disable it from that mode and everything seems to be in order now. I will probably call the dealer and find out what entails in removing the device in its entirety as I never use it anyway.

Just a big warning to everyone out there, if you have any kind of security on your vehicle, most likely the plug that powers the start/stop switch will be effected so if your car doesn't fire up after messing with that stuff, likely the culprit.

Anyones try to play video file from usb ? I tried a720p clip but it didn't play .

Through the factory USB ports? Im assuming it wont because those USB ports are still running through sync. Did you try using the USB cable in the tomtop harness? Still not 100% sure what this cable is for- I just routed it and threw it in the glove box

I did the same. I also put the GPS sensor in the glove box and it works fine

I thought about that, but I just put it in the windshield in front of the rear view mirror and ran it along the headliner since I already had all the dash trim pieces off. I didn't want to have to pull it all apart if it didn't work right with the antenna hidden - those clips are way to fragile.. I hate pulling trim pieces like that off with a passion.

Im off today and its cold and nasty out- Im gonna play around with it and see if I can find anything new. More so try to figure out what that USB cable is for and if it will play videos.

Yes, i plugged my usb into tomtop unit usb port ? i could see the video file, but it didn't play when clicked it.

My unit arrived today with no installation guide or manual. Just the unit and bundle of cables. Back of the unit is all in Chinese. Any one have an english manual they would mind scanning? Thank you.

There isn't a manual that I'm aware of- I followed the instructions in this thread: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40653

Its a very very good step by step guide, the only thing not really mentioned there is how to plug in the harness, but its self explanatory. There are two cables and an antenna wire going into the back of the CD Player/Tuner unit, the plug on the far left (its the only one that fits) will plug into the tomtop harness, the other connector on the tomtop hardness will plug into the tuner box. Theres a small, square like connector that will plug into the tomtop harness that previously connected the small screen you will be removing. And then finally the white connector goes into the screen. The other connectors on the bottom of the bezel plug back in as normal.

Thats gonna be personal preference, there is really nothing you HAVE to change other than the timezone when you first get it. Theres a lot of options, especially in the navigation program. Ill make a video showing what I changed and how I setup it up if it helps you.

No one received instructions. I would say the hardest part of the install was removing the cig lighter from the original bezel. That thing was a nightmare for me.

Also, be sure to unplug all three connectors from the sync box. I unplugged the two mini usb plug clips but left the big plug clip (assuming power) and the sync stuff wasn't working, I removed that clip and put it back in and then the sync menus and sound started working.

The CD player has two long connector plugs, one of those gets plugged into the new harness (only one that fits) and the other long one goes into the back of the CD player. The CD player also has a small round plug that needs to be put back into it. Everything else should be very self explanatory once you open it up and start plugging things in.
