I don't like the 3.73 gear for street use. It's too short and neuters the speed range in the lower gears. I also think the PP suspension is crap - it's very harsh and yet very sloppy at the same time. The Torsen is completely unnecessary for street work - it's got nothing over the standard LSD and if anything it's worse in very low traction situations.

The Brembos kick ass and the PP wheels are pure sex and the K-brace is mandatory. If you want the brakes AND the PP wheels then it's a no-brainer.

So - If I were to do it again I'd might consider a base GT M6 with 3.31s or maybe 3.55s and then add the K-brace and suspension/wheels of my choice. Brakes, maybe.

Now - if you can find a PP at a deep discount then sure, but the gears are very short with the stock redline. You can always de-gear it - the complete LSD 3.55 pumpkin is $900 brand new. Sell the Torsen/3.73 for a profit.

K brace comes with all mustangs.

I disliked my 15 pp because of all clunking clanking noise it made. My 2016 with 3.55 does not make all the noises.

You realize you can have different gears instslled for $700-900 right?
Why not spend the money there vs adding suspension, radiator and brakes?
You couldn't begin to touch those upgrades for the price of swapping gears.

SC or no?

^^ do that, I have the 3.55:1 and will upgrade to custom radiator if I SC the pony. I have a friend with a 2009 Shelby who tells me any bigger gear and he'd be shifting way too quick and he shift's at 6000 rpm now! 600 hp to the wheels after intercooler and Ford Racing trhottle boy w/ JLT intake. I've been helping him with his build mainly with suspension upgrade.

In my opinion, contrary to my earlier comments, the highway cruising rpm with the 3.73s is very acceptable - I'd say even 'just right'. in fact, you can actually pass in 6th gear.... but just barely. I don't see much acceleration happening in 6th with a 3.31.

The irony, here, is that the 3.73 is too short for all but freeway use (it's just right here) which really means that 6th gear is actually slightly too tall, I'd say. They could bring it in a little closer to 5th.
I agreed with the 3.73 ration being just right on the highway for passing in 6th. For non-high use I love the 3.73 ratio. It turns the 6 speed into a 3 speed (1-3-5) so I shift much less.

Good point about the PP tires, though, for use in Ohio.
For mostly city, I would prefer 3.73. But for mostly highway I would prefer 3.31

I have 3.55, and I think the engine runs around 2000 RPM at 70 mph. 3.31 may be more like 1800 RPM. Which means the engine runs slightly quieter, for listening to the radio, audio books, etc.

I don't try to pass in 6th. That's what 3rd / 4th is for. Have some fun. That's the whole point of the manual. :thumbsup:

Although I say that but if you pass people fast beware of the abrupt lane changers. Many cars have significant blind spots.

I'm gonna go with a base gt and build it the way I want with suspension/brakes etc etc. I just don't know what tranny to get. I have had a Ecoboost with and without the pp package and the pp on the eco makes a lot of difference but I could also get it with a auto.

The choice is up to you, your the one driving the car

Assuming a 27.5" diameter tire at 2000rpm in 6th.
3.73 = 67.38 MPH
3.55 = 70.80 MPH
3.31 = 75.93 MPH

Yep, I'm weighing what I would have to do to get where I want to be with the least hassle... Gtpp or not.

You guys have opened my eyes to some options I hadn't really considered, and downside for things I had.

No more 3.73's for me on next car. At 80-85 rpm is at 2750 which equals about 18 mpg. Lots of shifting around town too. 10 spd auto next. I want at least 23 mpg for trips.

During commutes I virtually never downshift on the freeway. Shifting down to 3rd or 4th gear and accelerating quickly pushes you up to triple digit speeds. Being able to accelerate in 6th gear for a commuter is especially helpful.

As for RPM, my performance pack is crazy quiet at 70-80mph. Any NVH is a non-issue in regards to gearing...unless of course you have thrown an aftermarket exhaust on that is prone to droning.

Keep in mind, upon resale...virtually any modifications you add will be worthless in regards to the vehicle value. Having the performance pack however will add value over the base GT.

As others have commented, you are much better off getting the performance pack and swapping out the rear diff. You can likely recoup a good deal of your costs by re-selling the stock torsen.

Yes. However the PP gear set is more suited for high revving N/A build. I would have regretted NOT buying the PP. I was able to pass on the premium features but felt the PP additions made more sense. Just swap axle pumpkins with someone with a 3.31 if you plan on going roots blower.

^^^^ This is a good idea. I don't know how to recalibrate for speedometer. The gear drive Torsen is supposed to be for road course racing because it does a better job at delivering power to both wheels. The LSD differential is better suited for straight line racing because it is said to be tougher. I read these things on this site from folks that look like they know what they are doing.

I don't understand the complaint about shifting in town. I wouldn't go lower than the 3.73's. The coyote just doesn't have the grunt down low for less gear IMO. I first drove a 3.31 car and it felt like a dog. Just unresponsive and sluggish. The 3.73's felt much better. Mine is a DD with 90% heavy traffic city and I get about 18.5 mpg average. On the highway I get 25-28 with about the same visiting my parents in a low traffic city. The brakes, radiator, and rear gear are what I wanted. The stock wheels I thought were fugly and a PITA to clean so I sold them for a good chunk of what my aftermarket wheels cost. As a package the value can't be beat, and you'll pay more adding up the parts off it you want when you buy it separate.
