I need some help, I am looking to get more tire under the car. Currently making 830rwhp with an A10. Currently have the Roush Flowform's 20x9.5 all the way around. Current rear tire is a Toyo R888R 285/35/20. I know I know 285 on a 20 wont hook. Car will not be making track visits, but do want to put something back there so when it comes out on the weekends and the spirited driving kicks in I don't have to worry about the rear end coming around to say hi.

So where I am now is deciding on either going some type of drag pack setup or changing to a different standard wheel setup. First thought is to go Weld with an 18x8 up front and 17x10 in the rear which would would give me much more sidewall. My other idea is changing to an HRE setup with a 19x10 up front and 19x11 in rear to get the rear up to a 305 with a little more sidewall than i have now.

For those are running around the same horsepower what pushed you one direction or the other and which worked better if you happened to try both? Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

I was in the same boat at one point (now im coming back around to it lol) and had 325/30/19 R888Rs on 19x11s as a daily setup...and the car didn't like it, blew them off in 78 degree weather and I sold the setup immediately when I got home. I'm guessing them being 30s didn't help either, but even still, once was enough for me not to have faith in a street tire at a certain power level and I definitely wasn't going to spend money doing rolling burnouts on a short tread life tire just to get heat in them for them to perform either, lol.

After that, I realized my car was only a weekend car anyway so why not just go the Welds route. I had 20x9 in the front and 17x10 on 305/45/17 in the rear to give me a mix of a street look so I didn't look too racecarish but still have enough meat to hook in the rear. And they did. Dead hooked every time I've ever gotten on it and they gave me a hell of a lot more confidence than the previous setup. And if I had to choose one or the other, it would be this 100%.

It is so funny as your reply is exactly what I am doing with my car, it is a weekend car and that is what is pushing me towards the Welds. Do you have an pics with your car on the 20x9 and 17x10 setup? I am seriously thinking about doing the 20x8 and 17x10 set but would love to see what it looked like.

Really don’t like the term “drag pack” unless you mean parachute. Sorry... carry on...

I think anything is better. Maybe I’m just old. To me a drag pack means parachute.

Drag wheels works for me. Sorry to be sick a prude I guess. Maybe the younger crowd get it. I know there’s the thread about drag pack name already so this is enough for this thread.

To answer the Initial question, if not going to the track, then I like the idea of keeping a little larger wheel on the front width wise. Lots of bad roads out there to mess with a true skinny.

As for rears, more sidewall than the 20’s would be good. Decide on a tire then a rim. If strip use I’d go 17’s. If no strip maybe 18’s but tire choice will be difficult.

Good luck!

The first 2 pictures were without spacers in the front and the last picture is with a spacer (which i later removed due to too much poke, rubbing and not wanting to be on spacers in the first place lol.)
My car is also only lowered 1in in the front and a half inch in the back.

Probably going to pull trigger soon, like you said not feeling confident enough to flog on the car is not a feeling I want to continue with.
