Tire sensors

The battery can be replaced on TPMS that are not epoxy potted by removing the plastic cap. Pop off the cap with a knife and install a new battery. The internal battery is a CR2032.

How common are non potted sensors though? I don't believe I've ever seen any. Admittedly though, I've never worked in a tire shop. Also, just because some aren't doesn't change that the OEM sensors in the Mustang are potted.

I only have a sample size of three TPMS with Ford FCC IDs. Two were unpotted and one was potted.

If you have a copy of Forscan you can disable the tire pressure monitoring system. It will turn off the tire idiot light on the dash until you need to replace the tires. I had to do it on my car.

Note: if you disable the tire pressure monitor you will also disable the stability control system. Probably the traction control as well. Just so ya' know.

You can use Forscan to disable the TPMS system and remove the light until you get it resolved with new TPMS.

I turned off the TPMS via Forscan and am still able to turn on/off TC, stability control, LC, etc. I've done it on several of my F150s and same thing.

After disabling the TPMS I had my car at the dealer for ... Something. They scanned the car and noted that the TPMS was disabled. The service writer informed me when I picked the car up that since I disabled the TPMS it also disables the Stability Control. They wanted to reactivate the TPMS "for safety reasons" but I declined.

Was the service writer full of BS? I'm assuming he & the technician who worked on the car know these computer systems way better than us ameturs.

I don't like arguing on the internet.
But I'd assume that if the TPMS had something to do with Traction Control and/or Stability Control, some kind of warning or light would show on the dash. Think of it as a requirement for Stability Control to properly work, if something prevents this from happening the car will give an error.

Again, from my experience, I disabled TPMS monitor on many vehicles and there is/was zero impact to turn on or off any of the aforementioned systems.
And answering your question about the service writer... you would be surprised at some of the technicians.
