Tire pressure

Iam such a knucklehead...after spend 3 hours detailing, numerous hours planning what upgrades I wanted, adjusting this and that to fit me in the car...I never checked the tire pressure and I EVEN PURCHASED A BRANDY NEW DIGITAL TP GUAGE.

The tires had 39 lbs in each tire and 32 is recommend ...now corrected.
Now...do I believe my digital TP GUAGE or the cars TP readout.

The TP gauge readout and the car TP readout, are they different by a lot?

Personally, I would say that it is not a big deal to run 39psi (with 32psi recomended). I routinely run 37psi while 32 is recommended. Again, just me saying it.

Horse, I just went out for a drive and while my gauge (cold pressure check) was showing 32psi the on board was showing 33psi....to close for concern...all good!

I can tell at 32 the car seems to ride better...makes sense I guess . I worry about uneven tread wear if over inflated....but that just might be all in my head.

:gossip: it typically works the other way around. Most tire issues are due to under inflation, not over.

Personally I always ignore the door sticker and go by the tire sidewall and adjust from there. I find door stickers are good for selling tires and gasoline.

I agree, I always thought that the recommended tire pressure on the door sticker was a bit to low for my likeing. It road nice but felt a little squishy in the corners.

So I usually run between 2-3 lbs. over that. Friend of mine owns a tire store by Goodyear. He says that for the most part...low pressure will wear the outside edges and over inflated will wear the centers. Basically un-even wear when not at optimum.

Agree about wear from under inflation, though for a high-HP car like the Mustang having over inflated rear tires would definitely wear out the centers fast. There's a happy balance somewhere around 34-36psi for most people, of course YMMV.

Tire sidewalls only have max-pressures IIRC, not recommended pressures. Going off the sidewall isn't really the recommended procedure because the tire manufacturers don't know the specific car their tires are being mounted on.

Do the different size tires have different recommended pressures? Usually a lower profile tire needs a higher pressure and vice versa. Guess I need to check to see what is recommended for the 20 inch wheel/tire option for mine.

Also all don't forget with the colder temps coming up your pressures are going to drop. (Damn polar vortex)

Yes for the most part different tires will have different pressures and also Sport/Performance packages will adjust their recommended pressures as well with performance in mind.

Now that it is getting colder I'm adding 2-3psi to my tires to adjust.

I've been trying to figure out how to pull up the on board tire pressure readings and can't seem to do it. I've gone thru the steering wheel controls on the left - gauges, lights and such show up - but I can't pull up the four corner tire pressures. I'm a bit of a tech dinosaur so any guidance would be appreciated. Oh, and I've checked the owner's manual and don't see the instructions in there.

Go in to the "Gauges" menu.

Keep pressing the "up" button.

Once you go up past... I think it's Vacuum/Boost, but it might be one or two more, the TPMS quad-display will come up.

The 19"s that came stock on my car were inflated to 36-37 psi from the factory.

When I put my 18" winter tires onI inflated them to 38 psi. But that's mostly just for fuel-economy reasons.

Keep pressing the "up" button.

Once you go up past... I think it's Vacuum/Boost, but it might be one or two more, the TPMS quad-display will come up.
