So I've always believed that wider is better for traction, but I've read some articles that challenge that belief as it relates to straight line performance. I have a KB blower that makes gobs of instant torque (around 670 rwhp), auto with 3.15 gear set, and do some dig and roll racing (in Mexico). I might get to the track but will get kicked off for no cage so that's not my main concern.

So would a 28" tire be best for occasional dig and roll racing, than say a 26" tire? Is width not all that critical to straight line grip? I know there have been many threads on here about tire choice, but unless I missed it I haven't seen a lot of discussion about tire height and width as related to straight line performance. My guess is that the answer might also depend on the type of power, centri vs. pd, but I'm more interested in pd since that's what I have.

I'm interested in this as well. I just purchased a set of ET Street Biased ply's that are 28.5". I know this will help over a 26. The problem for me may be that at the end of the season I was NA and switched from a 3.73 gear to a 4.09. I still have the 4.09 in it, so I know the 28.5" will be better. Will I have to switch gears again??

Idk if you can end the thread without considering the Street S/S over the R for some people.

But I run a 305/45/17 as well.

a 4.09 with almost 700lb ft??? How do you put that power down? My 630lb ft is hard enough with a 3.73.

On the street, wider is best if we are talking the same exact tire. once you start comparing different compounds, that changes. A lower gear or larger diameter tire is of course going to help with traction as well. All the tires I run are around 28". I considered running a 26" in the back to increase gearing but opted against it.

Roll racing though I would want a taller tire on a street car. My 2 cents

This is correct, thanks. The wider gears will def help! 2.97 first will also help.

What kind of 60's and Et's you coming up with your setup? I imagine it will be tough for me, hopefully the weather will beak and I will be able to play next weekend.

The height of the tire is going to affect the contact patch more than the width. 28" would be better.
