tiny hairline scratches

Every car color gets tiny hairline scratches no matter how careful you are. Trust me i am super super careful and I have some a year after correcting the paint (no coating) and only 4600 miles.

You just have to be prepared to polish your car once a year and apply sealant every approx 6 months and wax ever 2 maybe 3 months. If the tiny scratches dont bother you then its ok to just deal with them; they will only show in certain light at certain angles and nose up to the paint.

Black paint has the best "POP" when detailed but is so difficult to maintain. I had my black A4 professionally buffed and waxed, and two weeks later there were scratches visible from using a TOUCH-LESS wash. That was my last beautiful black car :(

No spider webbing or swirls

But I do have hairline scratches you can only see In certain lights, On roof/hood, only way to control It Is just polish polish polish... my next car Is def going to be white especially since I live In a desert.

It's damn near Impossible to control and It doesn't hurt the value of the car so just try your best. (:

This thread is so supportive!!! This black paint has been a frustration since day one for me, even C-quartz Finest doesn't stick to it! Previous cars where black as-well but never had a terrible paint like on the S550...

Have you contacted your installer? Perhaps they didn't properly prepare the paint for the coating.

yes I did and showed him, he wants to redo it if I have someone closer to me redo a test panel first to be sure if it's the cquartz that's gone or just doesn't responds well to our rainy conditions here. But I lost my confidence and will skip my 2 warranty... maybe try modesta or a full vinyl wrap.

Preparation was good though, wash, clay, polish, degrease, but kept complaining how terrible the paint was and how difficult it was to apply he c-quartz on it... anyway he was right about that.

I use a poor man's version of the foam cannon by dousing my car with a pail of suds before washing. My car is black, honestly haven't seen the number of small scratches as my 13 race red GT had. I wish the metallic black Ford offers on other models was available for the mustang - saw a really nice SHO in this color yesterday - maybe for MY 18? The metallic colors hide fine scratches much better.

I've very happy with the paint quality of my 2013 silver GT. My black 2010 Challenger SRT8 has the worst paint of any car I've owned over the past 40 years.

I reduce the scratching by using a foam cannon, let sit 3-5 minutes to soften dirt, foam cannon again for fresh suds, use 2 buckets of clean water for a double rinse of my microfiber mittens then wash the car with straight swipes. Rinse, dry with electric leaf blower then go over the whole car with detail spray & microfiber towel.

Yearly I do a full detail of wash, clay bar, buff, seal coat (2x), wax, detail spray. Black is the worst at showing imperfections but burgundy is pretty bad too. Silver is the easiest color to keep looking good.

Here's my 2014 SS Sedan that I've put 43K miles on in less than 2 years.



Here's my old Suburban right before I sold it. I put 260K miles on it in 13 years, maintained the paint as stated above.

Have you tried UK? It's more durable just doesn't come witha warranty, I just had my car paint corrected and coated with CQuartz UK, It looks amazing but unfortunately you can still see those hair line scratches In certain areas, remember you can only cut off so much paint, and the factory paint Is thin to begin with...

My buddy just picked up a black 2016 GT dealer special swirl city, took It to the same detailer guy made It swirl free and coated It In CQuartz UK, only $700. :cheers:

(Price may seem steep, but the car had damage on It scratches and paint transfer, It also had a contaminated clear coat and covered In buffer trails, It looked like the car had been re sprayed by the dealer or something, of course they deny everything and fix nothing. :rant:

No I didn't try UK but I know it hardens better, my installer didn't baked the cquartz but only let it cure for a few day's inside.
I'm still figuring out what I will do next. Either have him redo the car, full vinyl wrap or modesta, or a very drastic measure and have a full new paint thick job! As this paint stays my biggest disappointment on this car.

I'm also still waiting for the body shop to fix factory dent's under warranty before I can go any further. I also have a lot of dust particles under the paint and parts on the inside of the door & body where I can see the base coat through the black paint etc.

Less or more off topic but just spotted these fresh ones yesterday, bad enough to ruin my day... no idea what hit it overnight or the morning but one thing I'm sure of they weren't there when I parked my car at home...
I suspect my dad passing by with a brush in hands and not paying attention, but he denies it so... ill go fishing some more...
Not sure what ill do with them though, either polish again or let it be!

Oh and among the dried rain spots you see hairline scratches, yet most are from small spiders taking a walk on the surface..

If they 'disappear' when wet, then the scratches are only in the clear coat. They look too deep to polish out safely, so what I do on a deep scratch in the clear coat is to fill them in with only clear, then polish them down smooth to match.

Thx for the tip, what type clear do you use then? The Ford OEM repair pens or something else?

I bought a kit from adams,Da polisher all the pads and adams cutting and finishing polish.Also used their butter wax and in a days work my paint looked 10x better then when i bought my car.All the swirls and scratches,water spots gone.One of the best polishes i used so far,if i thought cell phone pics would do it justice i would post some.The paint is so clear and deep and its not hard to do at all,just takes time but well worth it.My car only had 3000 miles on it and stays covered,but using adams polishes still made a huge difference.
