I just took delivery of my new car and noticed a long scratch along the bottom of the drivers door on the inside. Its not very deep, but tried a couple cleaners and they did nothing. There are also a couple faint scuff marks on some pieces of the interior plastic and a couple marks on the seat that I pointed out to the dealership. Their guy tried to get it out, but couldn't and he said the leather specialist guy will take a look at it when I come in for the first oil change.

Should I call him back and tell him about the scratch I found too or just try something like mothers back to black restorer or Meguiar's Plastx? They also did an aweful job on the detailing inside as I can see overspray everywhere and some of the plastic looks like they used something shiny on it when they shouldn't have. Pretty bad when a 40k car isn't perfect, but they did get it from another dealership and it was the last guard they could find.

Anybody? The area I'm most concerned with is maybe 2x2 cm right on the edge of the seat where you will most likely rub against it getting in and out. I know it will wear in time, but wouldn't think it would be like that when I just got the car. I'm thinking something like a leather recoloring kit or even just a black dye may make it less noticeable. I'm guessing that's what they will use when I take it in, but my first oil change won't be for a couple months. I wonder if I should wait until then, schedule something sooner or just try to work on it myself?

I've used black shoepolish on my leather couch, worked great to conceal the blemish. Definitely doesn't make it go away, but hides it. As for the shiny overspray I recommend Chemical Guy's InnerClean (it's a cleaner/dressing with zero gloss enhancers).

From CG's site:
http://www.chemicalguys.com/InnerClean_16_oz_p/spi_663_16.htm

Or Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guy...TF8&qid=1471286662&sr=8-1&keywords=innerclean

Smells like Pina Colada - yummy!

The scratch on the interios plastic will be the mist difficult. I've most often removed those with heat (heatgun or torch), which again effectively hides the blemish.

Thanks for the tips guys. btw, I got a strange message from the dealership saying he got my message and they will take care of the issues I told him about when I bring it in but they need the name of my insurance agent and phone number for some reason. It sounds like they want to have the insurance pay for it and I'm not sure if I want to do that. I don't really even have an agent as I switched to geico a few months ago and they are not local and never even talked to anyone on the phone. I had numerous claims to my previous insurance with no problems until I hit one too many deer and they wanted to drop the comprehensive so thats why I switched. Just don't know if I should claim something like this that is minor? But then again its not my fault and it should be without defects when you get it.

Don't do it! There's no valid reason they would need to tap your agent in this case - unless they are going to run it through your insurance - essentially making you pay for it.

Thats what I thought, sounds like BS...although I haven't called him yet to get the details. I guess this is why you order a new car or at least look it over before putting a deposit down. I got another unwanted surprise yesterday...switched the insurance over and it went up about $20 a month. I wasn't expecting that. I know its a new car, but when I traded in the genesis coupe for the mustang it actually went down a couple bucks. I think it must have to do with this one being almost 40k and the last one was only worth 32k new.

Get some Meguiars scratch-x and work some in the scratch with your finger in a circular motion. Do this a few times and eventually, the scratch will diminish.
