Young owners unite!

Everyone at my track attack was 50+. Everyone thought my father owned the Boss and I was the guest when instead it was vice versa.

I feel like this will happen to me when I do the HPDE in Nola Motorsports park this May. Hoping it comes late april/ early may. This will give me enough time to get to 1000 miles, do the first oil change, so its ready for the track like the manual says.

Also, when I went around to different dealers, one salesman actually laughed in my face when I asked if they were getting any in. I just walked out and just thought "well that guy will not get ahead in life."

Hell, I'm 46 with over 20 years in engineering and only have a lowly '15 GT as my late model toy. I'd love to have a GT350. Where did I go wrong?

I honestly dont know of too many retail chains that rent out manual cars, but you might want to try these guys and see if you can rent someones manual car for a week or so. Otherwise buy a beater on craigslist

So I checked the site and there is one car in my area that I can rent that has a manual. It is $29 a day.

I then called enterprise and they said they have a weekend special. Its $30 for the whole weekend if I stay under 300 miles, so that is really cheap. The only thing is, the lady on the phone said they do not always have cars with manuals available so I will have to go in and check each weekend.

That's pretty good right there. Rent that for a few days - should have no issues driving your GT350 off the lot after that. Just take it super easy the first 1,000 miles until it's 2nd nature.

You're 26, so I'm sure you have your priorities in place. I bet you are fully funding your retirement IRA or 401/403b, yes? Good, smart boy. Of course you made sure you had 0 revolving credit card debt or other car loans outstanding. Right on! Then, I bet you have at least bought your first piece of property...right? Most likely a small single family home on a small lot. Since land is an appreciating asset and cars (usually) only depreciate, it is any prudent young person's FIRST big purchase. Maybe you've decided you should leverage the first piece of property and buy something else with a positive cash flow to make it pay for itself. Really smart boy. You might even have that rental help pay for a new car someday.

So with all those bases covered, you had a good chunk of cash left to drop on a down payment so you would not have a $800+ monthly car nut, I bet you put 20k down. You are one smart cookie. I like how you put life's priorities in order before you "treated" yourself.

I'm 30 and I did all these things minus a rental property, but I'm working on that now.

Does it really matter? He can spend his money however he wants. If he doesn't have a family his expenses will be much lower. He also has a civil engineering degree so he has proved he is more than capable of making decisions. Six figures is more than enough to afford a car like this.

To the OP: don't listen to guys like this who are jealous. Do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't put you in a bad place financially.

I learned in a 3 on the tree pickup which is a heck of a lot more demanding than this car.

Taught my son in a modified 5.0 that had a bad clutch cable and crappy brakes at the time.

The GT350 is 10 times easier to drive.

This is like learning how to swim. You can drown the same in 3' as the ocean. The OP can learn survival strokes then move on to advanced as time goes by.

Honestly I do not personally know anyone who has damaged a car learning how to use a clutch and shift. Except if alcohol and 4 wheelers were involved[emoji16]

Find a big deserted industrial park on a Sunday and have fun. The car does not bite. Uhhm, unless you tell it to.

OP you will pickup driving stick in short order. I taught my son who was 18 at the time to drive stick in my brand new Boss 3 years ago so we could attend the Boss Track Attack together. He picked it up in no time.

Congrats on your success at this early stage in life. The world is before you because of your hard work. Enjoy, but do be careful if you are not used to driving cars that are so powerful. They will bite you if you don't respect them. No one wants to see you wrapped around a telephone pole.
