I went to a local dealer here in South Texas and the salesman told me a funny story:
some 24 year old who just graduated from pharmacy school bought a GT350 (with a $20K ADM) and he couldn't get out of the dealership to drive it home!!! LMAO!!! He said one of the salesmen had to drive it home for him and the buyer said he would learn how to drive it at home! CLASSIC!

I'm surprised you can find a rental car with a manual trans to practice in.

Haha - exactly my experience with the GT500 back in 08 - after the deal was over I revealed to them I couldn't drive it out the lot - they were shocked I wanted to learn on this car - the salesman took it upon himself to teach me to drive the car on some empty roads for a couple hours - too funny.

Man you're lucky. I'm 27, graduated 2 years ago from mechanical engineering, and am just happy I can pay off mine and my wifes student loans.

Be happy you both got useful degrees which are in demand and will pay your bills and then some.

Young owners unite!

Everyone at my track attack was 50+. Everyone thought my father owned the Boss and I was the guest when instead it was vice versa.

OUTSTANDING, I used to train a young kid who got his engineering degree. He had a job waiting for him at a MAJOR oil company the day he graduated. He had a new z06 about 1 week later.

Be careful, Be smart, HAVE FUN!

So after 6 months of waiting my dealer finally got my VIN# and Build week. My dad is going to get a rental car so I can learn, or I was thinking of calling the track near me and maybe they have lessons I can take.

How long after the build week will I possible recieve my car, I hear 2-4 weeks?

Also what can I do with the VIN#, I hear you can go somewhere to get the sticker and see the progress of your car?

Thanks Guys :)
IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE? I can't imagine anything going wrong with this plan! You just don't "learn" how to drive a manual trans and a high performance car by taking lessons. It takes time and miles, and more important, some smarts. If you want to "treat yourself", go buy a Prius, and stop watching Street Outlaws or whatever is influencing your mind. If you don't take out someone out on the road, you are going to get very intimate with tree at some point, and all that "hard schooling" will be for naught. Good God!!!

I learned to drive stick in a Z06 then bought a brand new WRX STi a few years later (before I even graduated like a young idiot). I'm still alive to tell about it.

Haters gonna hate.

I learned in Germany in a VW Golf and to this day I have yet to come across a better shifter/clutch combo. Germans got that stuff right...

I had a 500+ hp WRX at 19 (that I paid for on my own). Engineering ftw! Timeslip well just because. lol

A 26 year old who has a degree in Civil Engineering might have more maturity than most. I would rather someone with focus and intellect learn to drive with a gt350 than many of the morons I meet during the daily operation of business having any sort of license to drive their uninsured beaters, with bad brakes, tires and no turn signals.

Additionally his desire to get professional instruction beyond the abysmal level of training necessary to get a license in most U.S. states, speaks volumes about a desire to do this right. Ultimately, time will tell if this was a wise decision, but I don't have nearly enough knowledge about this young person to make a condemnation or a judgement about what he's watching to influence his choices.

Get out of here with all that mess man. The best place to dish out unsolicited advice is on internet forums. Between the government and internet forums, I have my whole life and each decision laid out

Good for you! What one man can do another can do. You will pick it up quick. Manual is easy.

That is why I want to learn before this one comes in, I had it planned all along that once I knew the build date it would be time to start. I want to drive it off the lot, not my parents! The dealership is less than 1 mile away from my house so I should be alright.
