So after 6 months of waiting my dealer finally got my VIN# and Build week. My dad is going to get a rental car so I can learn, or I was thinking of calling the track near me and maybe they have lessons I can take.

How long after the build week will I possible recieve my car, I hear 2-4 weeks?

Also what can I do with the VIN#, I hear you can go somewhere to get the sticker and see the progress of your car?

Thanks Guys :)
Congrats man! It's an achievement to graduate with an engineering degree considering the amount of effort involved, at least it has been for me. I am 22 graduating with a Computer Engineering degree and I treated myself with a GT350R.
Cheers and be safe with your car !

IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE? I can't imagine anything going wrong with this plan! You just don't "learn" how to drive a manual trans and a high performance car by taking lessons. It takes time and miles, and more important, some smarts. If you want to "treat yourself", go buy a Prius, and stop watching Street Outlaws or whatever is influencing your mind. If you don't take out someone out on the road, you are going to get very intimate with tree at some point, and all that "hard schooling" will be for naught. Good God!!!
Your jealousy is showing. Or do you just have something against those of us who are young and successful?

That is why I want to learn before this one comes in, I had it planned all along that once I knew the build date it would be time to start. I want to drive it off the lot, not my parents! The dealership is less than 1 mile away from my house so I should be alright.
I honestly dont know of too many retail chains that rent out manual cars, but you might want to try these guys and see if you can rent someones manual car for a week or so. Otherwise buy a beater on craigslist

https://turo.com/rent (formerly relay rides, basically AirBnB for cars)

The GT350 is a super easy car to drive. Find a buddy who has a manual that will let you spend 20-30 minutes trying out. Then learn on the GT350 when it arrives!! I wouldn't worry about it.

I started to learn stick on a old Ford Pinto, gave up and drove my sister's hand me down '78 Volvo, auto. Then went to a Chevy auto for a few years. Decided to try manual again in a '94 Ford Probe GT... what a fun car at the time! Next was a manual '90 300Z and then a '09 370Z.

The GT350 is way easier to drive then all those other manuals. :ford:

The only thing I'm having trouble with is the hill assist, but I can turn that off if it becomes too much of an issue for me.

When I was 12 years old, I watched my dad drive his manual chevy vega (one of the worst cars ever made, but his was reliable). I watched his footwork closely. How he let the clutch out until it began to engage as he lightly applied throttle. Once it engaged he stopped letting it out (slipped the clutch) until the car began to move. Once the car is moving he fully engaged
the clutch and accelerated. I was very observant!.

The rest is just a matter of timing. Shifting up - just let off the gas, push in the clutch and shift.

A few weeks later I took my brother's '79 mustang 4 cyl. on a joy ride when the parents and brother weren't around. I didn't stall it once and the clutch survived just fine.

My advice is to watch someone drive a manual. Actually watch the footwork. Get a mental feel for the interaction and timing between man and machine.

Once you do attempt it for the first time, do it on a gravel road - preferably in an older pickup truck with a stout drivetrain that can handle the mistakes without damage. The gravel will allow some slip that also protects the drive-line if you really screw up. This is how I taught my son to drive his manual Toyota pickup at the age of 14. If the truck is a 4X4 put the transfer case in low range - even easier!

After a week you will be doing it without thinking.

I did the same thing at around 6-7 years old. I watched my dad drive his f-150. One day I decided I was going to try it. He used to let me play in the truck. Well I put it in neutral and popped the parking break and it went down our steep driveway into the neighbors house. Luckily it did no damage. lol

Good God!

I learned on a 500hp GT500 at 26 years old - modded it to 700hp a year later - this kid is right on track to being a winner.

Learn on the GT350 - don't waste your time in some junker. Make tons of money and do whatever the hell you want and don't listen to the bums.

Easier said than done buddy, not all of us are fortunate enough to drive or own a GT500 at 26 years old. Hell I barely got a used gto at 23 and I had to deploy to make a decent down payment.

I would prefer to learn on a beater and THEN get a GT350. Any chance of fucking up a econobox over fucking a $50k car is an easy decision. Learned how to drive a stick at 17, took a day and the next day stalled 3 times on the way to school.

I don't understand why so much hate. Just help the man with your properly mannered opinions and wish him all the best. There is no need to point what you could afford at what age and to get mad at 20yr olds for being able to own a $60k sports car instead be proud of their/my generation for working our asses off to become capable of buying whatever the f*** we want.
Much thanks.

Nobody is hating, calm down. In the end its all up to the OP on what he wants to do. Some people, like me, suggest getting an econobox and learning on that, just a suggestion. Wipe the sand out of your vag.

Lol, you mention your generation, what generation is that? The entitled generation?

Should I be sorry for being entitled? Forget it, that is not happening. I worked hard through college and landed up with a 6 figure salary. Sorry but not sorry.
Instead I suggest you share your sob story for not being able to afford afford a nice car at the age of 26 somewhere else.

Good day.

^ Lol, thanks!! :first:

A couple of months from now we will see threads like:
POS clutch already fried, what brand should I get to replace it?
Clutch keeps slipping, only have 1k miles, will ford replace it?

Thanks for sharing your story of hard work bud. I'm a little older than 26, hopefully one day I can get to your level, and afford a GT350R.
