Production starts tomorrow, 8/11 - let's say they build 650 cars a day, gives Ford room for, let's say 61,000 cars for the rest of the year, so I don't expect that it will take too long before you get the see your car. Probably the first production run will be for the dealerships and some (hopefully) for the export to Europe and China f.i.

Production of dealer stock vehicles MAY be continuing full throttle tomorrow. Production of custom order could begin on Sept 11th if you were scheduled for production that same day (That won't happen). We have been hearing about a few issues on the line recently. They are not going to be cranking out 650 a day any time soon. And there is NO way they are going to produce 61K by the end of the year. I think half of that amount would be an highly optimistic guess.

Realistically if you were lucky and it was scheduled for a late September build (you may not be able to get that either) I'd say you are looking at top of November at the absolute earliest. And more realistically late November or top of December.

Just my guess.

My heart just dies every time I click on one of these ETA threads. I'm just telling myself mid October to early November. Hopefully mine will be one of the first retail orders produced. Even though my dealer swears that he "ordered it a special way" to get it here faster. Ugh.

Ford has been saying all along that the first ones should show up in the fall. That means as late as late November. They've never hinted at any earlier, late summer or what part of fall. Therefore, any speculation about getting a car any earlier is exactly that. Everyone getting their feelings hurt because they won't get their car in august and threatening to go buy something else, well, go ahead because father ford themselves didn't tell you that you would. Go buy a camaro if you can't wait.

Beyond that, it takes time. I am the most impatient person in te world probably, but right now, we have no choice.

Do I hope mine shows up before November? Absolutely. Will I get mad if it doesn't? Nope. (My dealership actually told me Christmas when I ordered in my LE scheduled for sept 15th now).

I completely understand them going slow, even pushing back production to fix issues. But some people want it now and perfect and sometimes production of anything doesn't work out that way. They would rather have a good product a few weeks late than junk out there earlier than promised. Which one reflects worse on the company?

Technically Fall runs all the way up to December 21st or thereabouts. So as long as the first ones get delivered by then they will be "safe" in their Fall 2014 estimate. I don't think it will be that late but they covered their bases with that Fall 2014 statement.

My point is, if we haven't seem them hitting lots by dec 20th (in your case) only then can anyone say "hey ford, you let us down". Just because you think they should be earlier doesn't mean they will be, no matter what the start date is. They said x, so better than x shouldn't be expected.

Correct. They have left themselves a wide window. They will make it. Its just by how much at this point. In other words think by Dec. 21st and then be surprised by any earlier release.

Yep. Unfortunatly many people believe taht they should get there car two hours after it's built, be perfect without qc (and forget that it's one of 600 so qc takes time).

I'm actually still astonished that they can take a line that is running one car on June 20th, shut it down, retool it, retrain all people (both for a completely new car), start it back up, tune it to properly fit the thousands of parts correctly to the right torque value, and do this all with safety being number one goal. And be back online and turning out customer ready cars on august 11th.

I work in production and find that amazing. I would love to see the changeover process.

We ordered our 2013 Fusion on the 20th of May 2012, first day the order banks were open for that model. We took delivery on January 18th, just for perspective. Crazy thing was it was built in early October but was held for a quality control issue. After waiting 8 weeks the dealer ordered a second identical one that actually arrived before the first one by 3 weeks! Needless to say it was frustrating.

I wish dealers would shut up. They have no better idea than anyone else. Ford hasn't given a delivery date for first cars yet to anyone. Ford hasn't populated the first ship or delivery date spot in any orders. They haven't said they will or given an indication when it will happen.

Once qc is good on J1 cars, then we can see that. And J1 starts today at best.

On the other side of the "people shouldn't be expecting it sooner" coin is the "don't expect it later" mantra also.

Best I can say is don't expect anything right now. The first cars will hit in the fall. That's from father ford. If you or I are lucky, ours will be one of those.

Right now, the only thing we can do is wait. We have to wait until J1 cars are coming off the line with no huge qc issues, and wait for them to build enough to hit many lots all at once and wait for all those to be gone through with a fine toothed comb. Then and only then will ship and delivery dates start showing up. Then and only then will we know when well get our cars.
