I think there's a little slack in the driveline. I don't think it's an MT-82 transmission issue, as I don't remember it happening in my 2011 GT or my 2011 V6. I would assume the CV axles have something to do with it.

Seems normal to me. I wouldn't worry unless there's an actual problem associated with the noise or the noise starts getting loud.

I get the "thud" as described in that long thread, but my car seems to be quite muted compared to another GT I drove recently. It's not objectionable at all, just there.

Right. I think mine's fading with useage. The only time I get an audible thump is driving during warm up at low speeds. It's completely separate from clutch engagement. It can occur if I'm sitting at a stop with the clutch pushed in the moment I slide it into first. If I put it back in neutral and do the same thing again, no thump.

The more I hear about, the more it sounds like it has to be inside the transmission to me. Other factors may impact it - shift bushings, other system lash, etc - but the root cause lies with the transmission.

As I said to someone else, "normal" is a relative term. I would not consider "normal" and typical for that model of transmission to be the same thing, though that is how the terminology seems to be used in this case. With that said, it is perfectly conceivable for the thud to be a characteristic of this specific model of transmission, one that it is annoying but not actually detrimental to the transmission's operation or durability. Or so I'd hope...

M last MT82 didn't thump, but this one does. Something changed....
From what I've read, the MT82s that Getrag builds for the S550 are manufactured in China, whereas ones for other customers are built in Germany. It could be that there is greater variation in the quality of components used, assuming Getrag isn't shipping parts from Germany to China for assembly. Is anyone more familiar with the lineage of the MT82, where it was built when for what customers? There might be patterns in that which are worth studying.

I had a 12 GT before this, and that trans was built in China too. It didn't thump from n-1, 1-2, and 2-3 like this one does.

Starting hearing the thumping as well.564 miles. Not normal at all. There should be no thumping period. I've beat the crap out of old fox bodies that didn't do this.

That MT82 Transmission has been a piece of shit since day one,it has no Q/C from China, and the bearings and gears are of very poor quality, look back at the S197 series, they had the same problems, and now the higher mileage cars are really suffering, 40,000-50,000 miles transmission is junk and some have had 2 or 3 rebuilds or trans replacements, the A/T seems to have been bullet proof so far.
