I was pretty set on getting the FRPP sport exhaust by Borla. Then I ran across some youtube clips of the Gibson system. I love that the tips are 4.5" and the price is almost half of the Borla. Interested to see what people have to say about the system. Thanks

I installed Gibson on my 15' GT yesterday.

From the videos online it sounded clean, not too loud, with a good note. The exhaust note IS good, but the videos do it no justice for how loud it actually is. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it is A LOT louder than I imagined from watching the videos. They capture how smooth it sounds but none of them capture how loud it really sounds.

I asked the wife what she thought, and she said, "I guess if you like really loud cars you'd really like the way this sounds." I asked a friend how he liked it and he told me it sounded like a mustang with exhaust. There is one vid on YouTube of an owner showing off the Gibson, and a few days later there is another vid of his car with magnaflow street. He said it was TOO loud for him.

I think if you want your car to sound loud but good, Gibson is the way to go. I can't comment of performace as I havnt got on it since the install. I like it and am glad I purchased it. If it were any louder than it is I might have had second thoughts.

Thanks for the review. I do like loud exhaust as long as it Dosent really drown you out inside the cabin. Ahh tough decisions!

I really like the way the tips look also, much more flush an integrated compared to the FRPP, those just don't seam like they fit, they stick out to far for my taste.

Well, I was considering the Gibson too, but if they are really loud, then I may have to pass. I have the Bassani cat back on my current car, its loud by not overwhelming. (although it will set off most car alarms when driving by) but at idle it's maybe just a tad louder then the original GT500 mufflers.
My next door neighbors just had a baby, and I'd hate to wake them up when I"m leaving early in the morning.

Are there any headers that will fit with the Gibson exhaust?

I have the Gibson on my car. Installed on the Dyno yesterday. Imo it's not that loud at all.

Back to back

2 pulls with stock cat back
2 pulls with Gibson cat back

5hp increase. On both pulls.

Weight was substantial

Without cats, I would say it wil be loud then.

Are we talking loud in relation to stock or loud in relation to other aftermarket catbacks? There is a difference. I just ordered one last night but if it drones I might CX the order today.

It's louder than stock for sure. Vs other cat backs. Id say they are all pretty close.

Imo chambered mufflers are all pretty close. Same with "straight through" packed mufflers.

I heard no drone 30 min ride home on a 50mph road with some traffic and lights.

price is almost half of the Borla.
You should still be able to shop around & find the FR/Borla for under 1100 delivered. For what that is worth. Still a chunck more than the Gibson though.

I like the FR with black tips, would prefer it if the whole muffler was black.

Best I can tell from these threads is it seems most are happy with whatever they get, so I wonder if we just have a basically good sounding engine that is hard to screw up :).

We run the Gibson Catback on our Mustang, I love the way it sounds. Very smooth but very deep, not quiet but not real loud either. Will be posting a sound clip soon. The 4.5in Intercooled tips are perfectly at home.

I will be putting up a full build post soon of my GT PP, but just had to jump in to this thread with my thoughts and findings. I am running the Gibson cat back as well, and like the others I must say the sound is amazing! It is fairly loud but if driven softly you can keep it relatively quite.

I'll say this much it takes more than 2 dyno runs for the adaptation of the ECU. I had my work done at HG Motorsports (wouldn't trust anyone else with my car) and they baselined with a number of runs and then put the exhaust on and ran it again (all done same day). The first couple runs with the Gibson netted about the same as you...6 rwhp. But as they ran it more and the ECU adapted, it ended up with 4 back to back pulls around 20 rwhp. One of the coolest things to hear from them was how incredibly consistent this motor is. Every run was within only 1 to 2 rwhp of each other. Most cars very much more due to heat soak.

So there you have it, and here is the dyno sheet (stock on 91 octane with 500 miles on the odo was 391 rwhp, with Gibson 410 rwhp...

Power pulls are different than tuning pulls.

My car was on the Dyno for 5 hours that day. For a total of about 14hrs in all.

What was coolant temp at pull #1 and pull #4?

First pulls were 417hp tune only.

Settled in at 408hp tune only. After the exhaust it was 413hp no matter what he tried tuning, not just power pulling. Cooled down, two more back to back pulls. 413hp

My car has 300 miles on it. 80-90 of them are Dyno miles.
