Have you browsed the "Issues, Repairs, Warranty, TSB, Recalls" section of this forum? It's littered with engine tick threads on the 18+ engines. I'll keep my 17, thanks.

Mod for mod 2018 wins so the mod a gen2 to keep up with a 2018 is absolutely silly and pointless.

But but but what if the 2018 was modded too.
You are right, it’s a silly arguement. Mod for mod, the 2018+ GT will be faster. But the OP made the claim it would be a Herculean effort to make the 15-17 GT faster than the 2018+ GT when simply an E85 tune and 18 GT IM would accomplish that.

I don't think it would even take that much. Slightly better gearing plus a solid 93 tune would be more than enough to keep up with an 18. Of course this is MT82 vs MT82 and equal drivers.

It'd only take a a 93 tune and 2018 IM to keep up with a stock MT83 '18 car, assuming equal driver.

LOL but what if I bought a $500 dollar Honda and over nighted parts from Japan?

The whole bang for buck argument is comical.

SMFH!!

I see from your sig your modded 17 runs 12 flat at 114.

Bone stock 2018s run that with a higher trap speed...........

By modded you mean a 93 tune and intake? That's less than 1k in mods. Oh that's 114.96 mph thank you very much. LOL.......

I can easily run stock 2018 numbers with a few minor mods and guess what? My engine doesn't tick! LOL......

Impossible, every 18+ ticks. You're not listening close enough. The 6r80 is stronger, I'll keep that too. The plan is to go boost eventually.

10R80 clutches and converters are out. You are insane if you dont think the 10R80 will have plenty of support.

E85 isn't abundant here so that isn't in play or in the comparison. The 15-17 would be minimum 1k for tune and IM, so no, it is not "herculian", nor did I say it was. Most of these models have limited warranty remaining or the price is higher. The price of new 18GT are 10K off. Either a GT with 301A for $28K or premium at $31K. To get a very good condition 16-17 with warranty remaining or lower miles and then add the 1k just doesn't make it that great of a deal verses value of car. Could a new 18 be one with an engine noise? Maybe, but you sure could get a 16-17 that would have hardly no warranty and have other issues.
As for rear gear, a 6 speed with 3.55 to 3.73 is not much, and the 3.31 to 3.73 is decent. Have had gearing from 2.73 to 3.73 swap. Another from 3.27 to 3.73 to 3.55. Gearing always helps and if that is the choice the PP model makes the most sense.
Thanks for the replies.

Do not forget that 18+ is mixed direct/port injection. Someone has already posted pictures of pretty badly carbon covered valves here at the forum. That will redice horsepower unless you regularly walnut blast, and that is not cheap.

The port injection will keep the valves clean....

Would I like to have a Gen 3/A10/PP1? Yes, indeed. But my '15 is paid for, and it would cost a significant chunk of change to swap for the latest and greatest. Nah, I'll mod what I have too.
